Etsy Couture

April 6, 2010

About a month ago I posted an entry on some of my favorite Etsy jewelry shops and thought it was time that I share some of my favorite Etsy clothing stores. While there are tons of vintage shops on Etsy, the stores that I have selected only feature clothing that are made and designed by the seller.

Vees is a made-to-measure label created by fashion designer, Vee Lee. I love the light femininity of her designs and the bright colorful fabrics that she uses. Vee is currently featuring her “Tiny Heart Collection” where 10% of each purchase helps fund families in need who are struggling against cancer. You can also see Vee’s blog (here) and follow her on twitter (here).

Pretty Birdie is designed by Stephanie Teague, who started out creating clothes for her Barbie’s and then began reconstructing thrifted pieces. All of her clothes are made out of organic and sustainable fabrics as well as recycled materials, such as leather from an old couch.  I love how her designs are entirely organic, but still exude a sense of elegance and sophistication. I also love the idea of wearing clothing made out of old furniture or quilts. I can totally imagine seeing her collection in stores like Anthropologie and Creatures of Comfort.

La Bronz is created by Laura Bronzini, a freelance designer from Lithuania who now lives in the U.S. She is inspired by shapes and lines, and creating pieces that reflect architectural objects. I love how despite the modern structures of the clothing, there is still a light and sexy quality to her designs.

Black Market Baby is designed and created by Audrey Cantwell. While her designs are already being sold at stores throughout Canada, I think it’s only a matter of time before we see her in stores like Assembly New York and Oak. Her Etsy shop was actually sent to me by one of my readers and I am absolutely obsessed with the urban edginess of all of her looks. I can easily imagine these looks on style icons like Kate Moss and Sienna Miller.
