»· Style Icon: Carrie Bradshaw ·«

June 14, 2011

It goes without saying that Carrie Bradshaw, the love crazed shoe whore protagonist of Sex & the City, is one of the biggest style icons in fashion. Even when she’s wearing athletic shorts and a cheesy tank top she’s still strutting down 5th Avenue in a pair of Manolo Blahniks. But here’s the thing: ever since I got the complete six season booklet for my birthday last year, my obsession with Carrie (and her three “fabulous friends”) has become a little disgusting. With no cable and delays in Netflix arrivals, I have found myself watching Sex & the City episodes back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back and so on and so forth. And while I clearly enjoy the show and all its quirky love stories, I can’t deny the fact that half the reason I keep watching time and time again is because of Carrie’s covetable wardrobe (and apartment). I know, I know, it’s completely unrealistic and thanks to blogger, The Frenemy‘s excellent math skills we now know exactly how in debt Carrie Bradshaw is, but I really just don’t care. Her outfits and wardrobe are an endless supply of inspiration for me and make getting dressed in the morning that much more thrilling. Brunch on a Saturday? Why not go the Carrie route, say “to hell with casual dressing” and wear a sparkly dress and sky-high heels? Quick run to the grocery store? Better wear that fur coat and Fendi bagette! The only downside to watching this much Sex & the City? I have this never ending urge to go shopping…but I guess that’s nothing new for me.

** p.s. if there is a “S.A.T.C. A” (Sex and the City Anonymous) that any of you know of, feel free to admit me…

**p.p.s. but I’ll only go if I can bring my S.A.T.C. box set with me….

**p.p.p.s. HELP I HAVE ISSUES!

**p.p.p.p.s. I’m sorry for everything that just happened…

LOVE this posting! I can’t believe it’s been a year since SATC2 was launched at the movie theaters! Every time I watch an SATC episode, I find fashion inspiration!

Don’t worry. You are not alone. I have a very unhealthy addiction to this show and Carrie Bradshaw and her fashion in the show and Patricia Field. You are hilarious! All I have to say is “these shoes pinch my feet . . . but I love them.” Oh and “if I knew I was gonna be shoeless I would have compensated with a big hat or something”. Oh and “someone help me he took my strappy sandals!” Aaaaaaaand, we’re done. Enjoy the SATC marathon. I’m gonna go home and have one myself!

hahahahaha you’re funny. You aren’t alone! I love her and her style choices. Ever since I moved to NYC, the show became much more relevant then it was ever before because it’s very true to NYC. It really is hard to date in the city, they weren’t lying and every chance you walk out the door is a chance to strut down your own runway.

A few years ago, when I lived in L.A., my roommate came home from Christmas with his family toting the box set. Our next few weekends were devoted to Carrie and her friends, which quickly turned into my watching it while making breakfast then I started taking writing breaks to watch some more. And with such it always turned into just one more, just one more, maybe just one more, and then it was nearing 2 am and I had watched nearly two whole seasons…I couldn’t stop. This cycle went on for months. Their world is so beautiful with their perfect union of friendship, fantastic dramas, her clothes, the streets of NYC, and the music of Miles Davis, really, it becomes a drug…;)

Nooooo, box set doooooom! I was exactly like this when I got my box set – totally obsessed. You have to give Sex and the City one thing, and that is that it never gets old. It’s still my go-to on a rainy afternoon. X

I have never really understood why people get so annoyed and frustrated by Carrie’s fantasy lifestyle. It’s a TV show! I loooveee the indulgent, over-the-top nature of it all…. like you said, it is a place to go to be inspired and escape for a bit. Sometimes when I’m getting dressed and I feel like maybe the outfit is too much I think….what would Carrie do? And that always helps me to not give a crap. Anyway, great post! I love reminiscing about Carrie’s fabulous wardrobe.

I have a slightly embarrassing SATC problem as well..i bought the box set, oh, 3 or so years ago, and still watch it back to back to back to back to back. My roommate makes so much fun of me that I watch it when she’s not home, and make sure I hide all the evidence (its like I’m sneak-watching porn!)
