The Cleanse

How amazing does my closet look!? Just kidding. I wish this was my closet.
I had a breakthrough moment a few weeks ago while I was sitting in my room back in San Francisco: I have way too much stuff. The fear of my Mom turning my room into an at-home gym or study was always a fear of mine so I demanded that everything and everything be kept exactly the same when I moved out over six years ago. Needless to say, my room became a cluster f*ck of dated paraphernalia; we’re talking sticker collections from when I was 8, at least five unfinished knitting projects, clothes I haven’t seen or worn since high school, and who knows what else.
So for the first time in…ever…I began to clean things out. Some things stayed, other things went to storage, while others were either donated or put in the trash. This resulted in a domino effect and I am now doing the same thing in my apartment in New York as well as my life in general.
For me this means no drinking for the entire month, no more clothes that I swear I’ll wear someday, and no more people who seem to do nothing but hurt and/or criticize me. I’ve never done anything like this before (as I said, I’ve never been one to make a New Years resolution) and I have a feeling it will take some time to accomplish, but I already feel refreshed just after these first few days of the big ol’ cleanse.
Have you done or are you doing any life cleansing like this? Tell me your plan and how you’re coping thus far!

Feel free to send any clothes you don’t want my way! haha.. & your goals are great, I just wanted to tell you about an article I read yesterday, that said not drinking a few nights a week for the entire year is better for your liver than not drinking for an entire month.
umm where on earth did you read that article? Not drinking at all is considerably better for your health than drinking a few nights a week
I should do the same….
SOnia, I totally did the same thing!
One of the most important things for me has been cleansing my life and energy from negative people who just hinder personal growth. It can be hard, especially if you tend to run into these people a lot but it WORKS!
No drinking is totally the way to go, also no processed food, that crap is bad.
SO proud of you! inspiration to all.
Your energy and enthusiasm makes me want to do the same. I’m not one who makes new, good habits easily so I’ve found it works better (for me) to start with one change and add a new one each week.
I think everyone goes that when they go home for the holidays! I know I for sure did it this past Christmas! I went through everything in my room and my attic storage and gave things away. I then went home to my house and continued the “cleansing” for the whole weekend! I feel so much better now that I only have the things I “need” in my life. 2012 starting off clean and organized! (Lets see how long it lasts!)
I do a mini-cleanse a few times a year, actually! As the seasons change and I update my wardrobe, I end up filling garbage bags with clothes and accessories I don’t wear and bringing those to Goodwill. I find that my style is always refining itself, too, so there’s also stuff that I get rid of because “eww, this is SO not nice”. And yes, it feels great every time!
