Derek Lam Racing Striped Caped Jacket - $2,190

I have a bit of a outerwear obsession - it’s the one thing I’m always telling myself NOT to shop for, and yet every season a few new pieces wind up hanging in my closet. Those sneaky jackets!

I’ve been dreaming about this Derek Lam cape/jacket since I saw it on the runway last season but the price is waaay a bit too steep for my budget. Unfortunately, unlike my J.Crew versus Celine comparison (see here), I’ve been unable to find anything remotely similar to this beauty, but oh! how amazing would it be to own it! I love the murky green with the racing stripe and that extra little detail of leather on the edges. Ugh, I hate the pains of fashion desire.

Swooning

Bottega Veneta meets Alexander McQueen in these House of Harlow clutches and boy am I swooning! How amazing would these look with a sexy shift dress or a polished silk blouse and leather leggings!?

They run between $195-$255 buckeroos and you can find them here!

I have a bit of a bag obsession and have been lusting over the Céline “Classic Flap” purse ever since they started popping up all over the street style blogs. This isn’t the first time I’ve obsessed over a bag waaaay out of my price range, but it is the first time I’ve found a similar and more affordable style that I’d be totally content with. The J.Crew “Edie Nubuck” bag has a similar shape and structure to my Céline dream but is a fraction of the price.

Signed. Sealed. Delivered.

We all know how much I love bags, so naturally my ears perked up when I found out that my old friend Victoria Horning was designing her very own line of handbags. Little did I know that her collection would quickly become my obsession du jour!

I met up with Victoria last week at Abdingdon Sq. Park in the West Village to catch-up and take a gander at her designs that I’d been lusting after on the internet for months and months. To say that I drooled over her collection would be an understatement. I was practically slobbering (not literal slobber FYI) over these bags, blown away by their unique shapes, impeccable construction, and beautiful quality. Each piece in her growing collection is named after one of her favorite streets in Paris, the source of inspiration for her line, and feature exotic skins and leathers that she finds in local NYC factories in the garment district. I loved hearing about how she goes about designing and producing these bags and the plans she has on developing her line further, eventually moving into shoe design as well.

While still in the beginning stages of making a name for herself in the fashion industry, I can say with the greatest amount of confidence that Victoria Horning is the next big thing. Her collection is the perfect combination of sophisticated simplicity and downtown edge and is as seasonless as it is timeless. You can currently buy her bags at NYC’s Curve Boutique in the West Village or by special order on her website. And be sure to follow her on twitter as well!

Now onto deciding which one I’m going to buy!
