New commute due to Hurricane Sandy

This has been an exciting and strange week. I’m thrilled that President Obama was re-elected (yay for vagina freedom!), ecstatic that I got to see Rihanna perform at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, and irritated that New York City got hit with another (colder) storm. Thankfully the snow is melting away, but my heart goes out to those who suffered the impacts of Hurricane Sandy, and then had to experience a snowstorm.*

The majority of this week was focused around commuting into Manhattan since my normal subway was still flooded (a small price to pay from such a severe storm). As much as I hated walking an extra 20 minutes in the freezing cold, I admit it was refreshing to change things up a bit and notice certain streets and areas that I’ve otherwise neglected. I think the highlight of this week though (aside from Obama’s re-election!) was meeting fellow San Franciscan and jewelry designer of my dreams, Tamar Wider of The 2 Bandits!

This weekend I’m doing the necessary switch of my summer to winter wardrobe accompanied by many glasses of wine.

Amazing launch party for Margiela x H&M

Due to my schedule and kerbobbled brain, keeping a routine isn’t all that easy for me. It’s like women who are able to keep their purses clean and organized. Their cosmetics are kept in a cute little case, their pens (yes, they remember to carry pens) are placed strategically in a side pocket for easy access, and their cell phone most likely sits in the cell phone compartment that seems to be present in almost every tote these days. I am not this person. I have receipts everywhere, old broken cigarettes, and mooshed up chapstick buried in the bottom of my purses. Every once in awhile I’ll do a clean up and I try to keep that going for as long as possible but let’s be real here, give me two weeks and it’s back to stage 1 chewed gum in the gum wrapper.

This week I did a figurative “purse clean” on my life. I made it my goal to recreate a schedule, actually wake up with my alarm(s), and accomplish enough each day so that I could go to bed relatively stress free. It hasn’t been easy (that snooze button is just too tempting!), but I’m already starting to feel better, despite the nasty cold I picked up somewhere between the L train and East 53rd Street.

I often have to remind myself that I operate better with an organized schedule, which is half the reason why I started A Week in Review. It’s a way for me (and you!) to look back at the week and it’s accomplishments as well as put some closure on everything before the weekend. Here’s to hoping this kind of organization lasts me through this weekend’s Halloween activities; though if I wake up Monday morning with candy wrappers in my purse I won’t complain.

Not my favorite kind of weather…

I’m not really a fan of rain (is anyone?), but it’s supposed to be cloudy and wet all weekend and I’m not in the least bit mad. I want nothing more than the opportunity and legitimate excuse to curl up in my bed all day watching movies and reading.

This week actually went by pretty quickly, which I attribute to the fact that Monday kicked off with a bang at a fun and tasty dinner at Kenneth Cole’s Grand Central store, followed by a lots of productive market appointments and meetings, and planning an upcoming Gatsby-themed party!

I’m flying to Amsterdam on Monday for the launch of a new collection (more to come!), so I plan to lay low until it’s time to hop in the car and jet off to Europe for the first time in FAR TOO LONG.

Until Monday pickles!

Glass bubbles at Saks

Well ALOHA Friday! This has easily been one of the more stressful weeks of my life (all work related) and I have the pre-teen acne to show it. Thankfully, however, my friend Gillian has been here visiting from San Francisco, so I’ve had something fun and refreshing to go home to each night (well, her and Finn).

Amidst all the work blunder, I got to attend some pretty awesome industry events this week including two soirees at Saks (the new shoe floor is to.die.and spend way too much money.for.) I also got to check out the brand new C Wonder store (the opening of which included a hilarious tourbus ride up to the Time Warner center), which is colorful, affordable, and full of all kinds of goodies. If you’re a trinkets and treasures lover like me, this store is your kryptonite.

This weekend I have very few plans and I couldn’t be happier as next week is looking to be as jam packed as this one! I do have one plan however, and I’m fairly certain it involves a strong martini. Until Monday you wonderful people!

{ New lace up wedg(i)es from Rebecca Minkoff }

So…this week I hugged my air conditioner. Not even kidding. It was so hot that you could easily fry a person on the sidewalk — screw eggs, this is next level human boiling heat. Thankfully it rained and I think it’s finally starting to cool off but, woof!, it’s not nice out there.

When I wasn’t spooning my air conditioner, I was either ferociously working at a boring ol’ desk (I’m so exciting, right?), dancing with friends at a Hot Chip concert in Prospect Park, or shoveling mini cupcakes into my mouth at an event. Yum!

And now, off to the weekend!

{ Scrumptious pb & j cupcake at an event — look at that moisture! }

{ Thou shall no longer hold my yogurt, thou shall contain my jewelry! }

{ Pistachio chair in my living room! I think it’s almost time for an apartment post… }
