Leather Lover

I’ve been in the market for a short leather mini for quite some time now, so when Santa plopped this Joie beauty under my tree I practically kicked my heels with joy. The fit is superb – it sits at my natural waist, has a slight A-line so it doesn’t hug in all those icka places, and is just the right length so that I’m not constantly tugging at the hem to hide my toosh. In fact I like this skirt so much that I think I’ll buy it in black as well.
Having yesterday off was delightful. Since I was free of my NYE hangover I got all those basic errands done like grocery shopping, my laundry, and I’m not going to bore you with the rest. But I have to admit that having a free day to do all those things that often feel so tedious can be fun and somewhat rewarding. Don’t you think?

Monochromie Homie

I’ve been really into monochromatic outfits lately – obviously my all black ensembles don’t count, but just the other day I wore red from head-to-toe and loved looking like a tomato. This look is obviously much more subtle but I love how polished grey looks when paired with similar charcoal hues.
The other great thing about this outfit is that it’s as comfortable as a grey sweatsuit. The trapeze shaped cashmere sweater is as cozy as wearing a blanket and trousers with a little breathing room are a nice change from my everyday skinny jeans. If both pieces came in multiple colors I would definitely own them; I mean how great would this outfit look in emeraldy greens?! Peacock blues?! MUSTARD YELLOWS!? Oy!
The good thing is that this is an easy look to re-create no matter what pieces you have in your closet (sweater and trousers? I know you all have some of those in your wardrobe), so stay tuned for something similar coming real soon…

SIDEWALK ▲ CAFES

I don’t know why but something about this outfit makes me think of traveling to Europe with friends and eating/drinking at sidewalk cafes. I think it’s because all of the pieces by American Living are versatile and comfortable (crucial when packing) and yet a pop of raspberry red lips, a bright flower and a classic pair of heels make them slightly more sophisticated.
One of my favorite things about traveling with friends is the process of getting ready for a night out on the town. Everyone’s rummaging in each other’s suitcases, the frequent question is “does this look ok?” and by the end of an hour spent getting ready, everyone is wearing each others clothes and usually far dressier than they need to be.
Although I don’t have any travel plans in the near future, I’m definitely making a mental note of this outfit for the next time I jet off to a fun place with friends.

Birthday Dress

This past weekend was perfect. I celebrated my birthday with my Mom and my closest friends, I ate more pizza than you can possibly imagine, and I found the perfect party dress for my birthday party.
After browsing around Opening Ceremony and Barneys, my Mom and I stumbled into Jill Stuart (whose collection I pretty much cried over last season) and boing! there was this dress. I tried on a few others but something about the colors in this one had me sold. I love the 1920s vibe combined with the gold accents and accordion skirt – you better believe I was fanning it out all night. Since my birthday party was a bit more low key, I dressed my party frock down with some chunky boots and a leather jacket (when it got cold) but boy oh boy I can’t wait to really jazz this dress up!

And now to announce the winner of the Eden bracelet. But first let me just say, WOW I loved all your comments and I should make you guys tell me what your favorite animals are more often, that was so entertaining! Thank you!
Without furtherado the winner of the bracelet is #25, Gwen Bircham! Email me with your address information and that bracelet will be on its way to you in no time!

≡ Amazonian ≡

This past weekend I watched a documentary on the Amazon and have been kind of obsessed ever since. It’s always been a place I wanted to go but I’d never go unless I had some kind of a human bubble to travel around in – insects that crawl under your skin and giant snakes falling from trees? No thank you!
However, I had so much fun creating my dinosaur adventures last week (see here) that I figured I’d spend a grumpy Monday evening playing around with photos of the Amazon while simultaneously incorporating my ferny green Zara pants that have been sitting in my closet staring at me for a few months now. I did shriek and pull my feet up onto my chair a few times while browsing for images (snakes are seriously my biggest fear) but I loved looking at all the colorful toucans and odd insects that look as if Dr. Seuss made them up.
I’m convinced I was a biologist in another life…or an archaeologist…or singer from the 1920s…or someone from a Jane Austen novel…or………..oy.
