Isabel Marant x H&M…Oh, YES!

June 11, 2013

Hold everything. Isabel Marant is doing a capsule collection for H&M? I think it might be Christmas in June.
I don’t usually share fashion news/collaborations on ye ol’ blog, but when it seems too good to be true I can’t help but share (see the Marni collaborooski). So naturally, when I checked my email this morning and saw that my favorite Frenchy, Isabel Marant, is in the works to create an affordable capsule collection with H&M, my eyes bulged out as I screamed, “Awooooooooga!”
Until this point, I was pretty done-zo with the whole collaboration thing. It was starting to feel like overkill. And beyond that, it’s almost impossible to get your hands on the limited edition collection because they sell out in a split second. But an Isabel Marant collab? Sign this stud-obsessed, french enthusiast, and bohemian afficionado up!
There’s no news yet regarding what the collection will entail, but do we really need to know? Has Isabel Marant ever disappointed? Obviously I want a preview, but should there fail to be one, I’d still set up a tent and barbecue outside H&M to get ahold of whatever she designs the day it hit stores, which happens to be November 14th.
Are you as excited as I am? Do you want to join forces and set up camp on Fifth Ave? I’ll get the coffee, you bring the bagels.

Ziggy Ziggy

April 16, 2012

As someone who pretty much lives in black jeans, you can imagine that I was quite skeptical about this whole printed jeans phenomenon. Not only are they frequently unflattering, but I tend to enjoy leaving the patterned pieces in my wardrobe to dresses, skirts, shirts, and all the other articles of clothing that don’t encase the legs. Printed sausage casings. No thanks!

Or so I thought…

A few weeks ago I went to the 7 For All Mankind showroom to peep some of their upcoming collections and ended up spending most of my time stalking this one girl wearing the pants you see me wearing in this very outfit post. As you might suspect, once I saw them it was only a matter of seconds before I harassed the aforementioned girl to find out who makes them and where I can find them. Turns out they’re by 7 – go figure – and within a few short weeks I was stepping into my very own pair. I admit they’re still a challenge for me to work with – horizontal stripes on the legs? Usually a major nono for me, but there’s something about those zig zags that I just couldn’t shy away from. And that my friends, is how printed jeans made their way into my closet. End scene.

Head Topper

February 16, 2012

Here’s a little glimpsey at what I wore on the third day of NYFW. I like to think of it as Crocodile Hunter meets Pamela Morrison with a side of coffee—literally. I’ve had those Zara wedges for about three years now, and truth be told I’d almost forgotten about them until I found them at the back of a shelf. Maybe I took the whole matching browns thing a little too far, but I actually like how they compliment each other.

As for the hat, nothing completes an outfit quite like a head topper. I’m convinced that you can be wearing one of the most basic outfits known to (wo)man, but if you throw a hat on top of that noggin of yours you’ll look like you own the sidewalk you’re walking on.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go tackle the mound of clothes on my floor. More NYFW posts coming soon to a Runway Hippie blog near you.

» · Style Icon: Abbey Lee Kershaw · «

November 2, 2011

Even though my new job has me looking and learning about models everyday, I’ve been following Abbey Lee Kershaw’s style religiously ever since I saw her in a Numéro editorial back in 2008. It’s only in the last few years that she’s started popping up on all the street style blogs which means my style stalking has grown sufficiently.

There are few people who have as unique a style as Abbey Lee, in fact it’s so unique it’s practically impossible to replicate. This isn’t only because so much of her clothing is vintage and/or thrifted, she also has an ability to put unexpected yet complementary pieces together that the best I can do is compare her style to dadaism. Maybe I’m making a stretch there, but fashion=art and vice versa right?

I think the biggest thing that I take away from her personal style is that while simple, staple pieces are always key, it’s also good to go outside your comfort zone and wear something totally outlandish and statement making (i.e. her Oscar the Grouch green fur coat). Or maybe that’s just my excuse for having such a ridiculous jacket collection…
