Hearts of Palm

July 11, 2012

I was a bit reluctant to wear this skirt when I first received it. While into the print — can you ever go wrong with palm leaves? — I was a skeptical about the shape/length. Slightly poofy resting just above the knee? Tricky tricky, Pollyanna.

After a few rounds of trial and major error with different colored tops and heels, I realized the only way to lessen the poof and draw away from the length was to pair the skirt with a heavily patterned shirt. The magic of print mixing strikes again!

I looked no further than Monsieur Comme des Garçons and all his stripey glory for my skirt’s pattern playmate. Though nothing about the two go together, my mirror told me it worked.

But what do you think?

Delicate Baubles

I have been drawn to bold, statement making jewelry for as long I’ve been wearing the stuff. As a wee tot I would rummage through my Mom’s jewelry drawers pulling out everything from gaudy oversize red heart earrings to a colorful star beaded necklace — hello 80s. Then middle school came around and it was all about choker necklaces, slap bracelets, and cheesy earrings from Claire’s. And then came high school with all its colorful plastic hoop earrings and rubber bracelets. Oy.

Now, I still love me some eye-catching jewelry – I’ll even wear a cat ring if the occasion presents itself, and don’t get me started on insect pieces – but recently I’ve traded in my safety pin cuffs for delicate, almost non-existent rings, subdued chain-link bracelets, and simple, everyday necklaces.

Here’s a look at the pieces I’m currently wearing by Gorjana, Catbird, and my new favorite: The 2 Bandits.
