A Week in Review

August 17, 2012

Oh, this week; a remarkable combination of shitty and wonderful. Even as I try to bitch and moan about all it’s annoyances (i.e. getting locked out of my apartment with Finn while wearing boxers and zit cream on my face…), it also brought a bunch of new projects and a website re-design that looks like it will happen before the start of Fashion Week! Hoodily doodily!

This week’s happenings aside, Friday, boy am I happy to see you. This weekend feels kind of like my last summer hurrah as I’m going up to my house in Connecticut with a group of friends and probably won’t be back there until October. Depressing. But that just means it’s time to live it up! Am I right?

Now go enjoy the weekend!

As someone who dresses a little more simply on a day-to-day basis, details are really important to me. For example, I love it when pants are lined with a bright color or when a collar is decorated with studs. The Spring 2012 runways were full of details but the gold adornments were the ones that caught and nestled in my eye. I mean, who doesn’t love a little gold bling in their everyday wear?

To put my art history major to good use, let me just say that Balmain’s collection was like Art Deco meets Byzantium with its angular lines decked out in gold. And then there’s Valentino with those perfect gold studs that seem to be the brand’s new defining factor. Jill Stuart may have been an Easter egg in fabric and colors but the nails were bedazzled in gold dots that I’m officially dubbing my next DIY. Dries Van Noten dabbled in the metallic hue with hints of copper on their shoes and Gucci had an Art Deco 1920s collection that I’d give my first child for. But if I had to choose a single gold embellishment for my Spring 2012 wardrobe, I’d have to go with Yves Saint Laurent’s gold-plated pepto bismol pink loafers that I hope to buy the second they hit stores.

It’s All in the Wrist

February 18, 2011

I’ve been known to pile on the jewelry. There’s just something about building up that jumble of necklaces or rings over a period of time that always ends up looking so bohemian and chic! One summer I wore so many silver bracelets that my wrist ended up an entirely different color than the rest of my arm. While I should have learned my lesson, I have yet again begun to build up that collection of bracelets and bangles that never.come.off. not even in the shower. So, to further my jumble of bracelet inspiration, I’ve pulled together some beautifully accessorized wrists that are giving me some serious bracelet, cuff, bangle, and watch envy.
