Isabel Marant x H&M…Oh, YES!

June 11, 2013

Hold everything. Isabel Marant is doing a capsule collection for H&M? I think it might be Christmas in June.
I don’t usually share fashion news/collaborations on ye ol’ blog, but when it seems too good to be true I can’t help but share (see the Marni collaborooski). So naturally, when I checked my email this morning and saw that my favorite Frenchy, Isabel Marant, is in the works to create an affordable capsule collection with H&M, my eyes bulged out as I screamed, “Awooooooooga!”
Until this point, I was pretty done-zo with the whole collaboration thing. It was starting to feel like overkill. And beyond that, it’s almost impossible to get your hands on the limited edition collection because they sell out in a split second. But an Isabel Marant collab? Sign this stud-obsessed, french enthusiast, and bohemian afficionado up!
There’s no news yet regarding what the collection will entail, but do we really need to know? Has Isabel Marant ever disappointed? Obviously I want a preview, but should there fail to be one, I’d still set up a tent and barbecue outside H&M to get ahold of whatever she designs the day it hit stores, which happens to be November 14th.
Are you as excited as I am? Do you want to join forces and set up camp on Fifth Ave? I’ll get the coffee, you bring the bagels.

Wear That Wall on Your Sleeve

April 23, 2013

As a newcomer to the world of gingham, polka dots, and pretty much any other hefty dose of printed fabrics (see yesterday’s post on the thought bubble skirt), I’ve now started looking everywhere thinking, “hm…could that make a cute skirt?”

I am also a relatively new addict to Pinterest, and find myself using it as a main source for procrastination and inspiration. Multiple times a day I click over to the picture-filled website, compiling mini libraries of scenic beaches, copy-worthy outfits and much to my surprise, wallpaper!  Though I usually find wallpaper to feel stuffy and obnoxious, lately these colorful rooms have been inspiring me in more ways than just interior design.  A blue and gold lobster blazer? Why not! Pink bamboo printed pencil skirt? Sign this sister up! A pleated silk chiffon dress decked out in toy cars? Abso-freakin-lutely!  I guess what I’m getting at here is that I am still drawn to the notion of looking to interior design for style inspiration, and that were I to ever have my own fashion line it would include more of your grandmother’s wallpaper than you could even possibly begin to imagine. But until that happens, let’s just take a moment to dream about these strips of wallpaper as a three-piece pantsuit with a clutch to match.

La Tur

November 29, 2012

As a blogger whose online presence revolves primarily around sharing sartorial choices, I really try not to repeat certain articles of clothing. Obviously there are some exceptions like bags, shoes, and underwear (scratch that last one, I’ve been wearing this bra for a straight week now and you didn’t know that, ha!), but for the most part I really try to mix it up. You come here to see something different and different I shall at least try to give you!

But part of me thinks you also come here to see some normalcy, and the truth of the matter is that I wear this shirt a lot. So much so that it was sitting in my dirty dry cleaning bag (note: this bag has been at the bottom of my closet since the beginning of October), and I started to miss it so much that I hand-washed it so it could be brought back into its normal weekly rotation.

At the risk of sounding disgustingly materialistic, I will say that having this shirt back in my closet makes me feel somewhat whole again. Kind of like when your favorite cheese isn’t at the cheese store and you try other allegedly similar cheeses that taste fine but really all you can think about is when the La Tur is going to be back in stock. Finally you get so fed up with trying different cheeses claiming to taste like La Tur that you go to a different cheese store, one that’s out of your way no less, so you can serve the creamy mound of fat heaven at your next dinner party.

I’ve gotten off track here, but the point I’m trying to make is that sometimes it’s not worth $100 to take your load of dirty clothes to the dry cleaner when all you really need to do is hand-wash the item you’re missing. Certain fabrics may not apply, see tag for details.

Fashion’s Night Out

September 7, 2012

Remember that time I hosted Fashion’s Night Out at ScoopNYC and couldn’t get over designer Yosi Samra’s dog Dexter? Yeah. That happened. Last night.

Decked out in my Scoop NYC black dress and more accessories than you could possibly imagine, I headed over to the Meatpacking district last night to hang out at Scoop, meet some fans (hi guys!), play telephone with Yosi Samra flats, meet Zac Posen, and listen to Brooklyn-based band St. Lucia for Fashion’s Night Out.

The crazy thing about Scoop’s Meatpacking district store is that there are four of them – and they don’t connect. So I was literally weaving my way through each store (the men’s store ended up having the best air conditioning and best bar), before ending up on the sidewalk for St. Lucia. But the highlight of the night, and no I’m not ashamed to admit this, was meeting designer Yosi Samra’s puppy Dexter. WHAT A LITTLE MUFFIN!

Thank you to Scoop, Yosi Samra, Zac Posen, and Dexter for a wonderful night!

Hello?

What are you saying?

You talk to him.

Designer Spotlight: Clover Canyon

July 26, 2012

I first discovered Clover Canyon while meandering around my old neighbor hood in the Lower East Side. I popped my head into a little boutique and found myself pulling heavily patterned, billowy pieces off the racks. I wasn’t convinced they’d look good on me – I often need more structured pieces – but quickly discovered that these patterned delights were in fact quite flattering. They didn’t hug or pull in all those awkward no-no places.

I didn’t buy any of them (mistake), but made sure to check the tag so I could stalk whatever brand I was quickly falling for. Turns out it was Clover Canyon.

The label is designed by a woman named Rozae Nichols and is focused around her experiences of California landscapes and culture (figures why I love it all so much!). It was only started in 2011, which makes me think, if her pieces are already this good, I can’t even begin to imagine what will come in the next few seasons!

Below are some of my favorite current seasons:

Resort 2012

Summer/Pre-Fall 2012

Holiday 2012
