A Week in Review

November 30, 2012

My favorite wintery scent in front of a snapshot of my last trip to Paris

The fact that December is tomorrow is a little startling; wasn’t it just Halloween? But December happens to be one of my favorite months, and my holiday plans are already full of festive occasions. More on that later though…

This week was a good one; long, but good. I finally got that “me time” I’d been looking for, which allowed me to get a bit more organized and practical about what’s ahead. I realize I just made it sound like I’m planning to climb Mt. Everest or bake some forty layer cake (I do plan to make a Bouche de Noel this year, FYI), but what I really mean is that my day-to-day life can get so hectic that I barely have a moment to notice that I haven’t shaved my armpits in a week.

But this week changed all that as I had many a night to myself to mull over all the things I need to accomplish before 2013. Step #1, buy a new razor blade. Step #2, buy a Christmas tree. Step #3, sign up for that class you’ve been meaning to take. And so on and so forth.

Have a good weekend!

I swear I take this picture every year, but I just love these little clementines!

An inspirational note from Diane von Furstenberg

Sometimes you just have to take a moment to sit down with your favorite writers

My least favorite part about the holidays: damage control by way of the gym

Dress Me, Please!

March 20, 2012

In exactly one month I will be in Miami for a friend’s wedding and I have no idea what to wear. Ok, lies. I have some ideas, but I’d love your input! While I should could go the economical route and wear something I already have, that’s far too boring for me and the likes of Miami, not to mention that half the fun of such an event is having something new to wear!

I’ve narrowed down my disgustingly large wishlist of dresses to six pieces, and it’s from here that I’d like to leave the final selection in your hands. Seriously, if you don’t start barking out some choices I’m going to show up at the wedding in a paper bag that says “My Readers Made Me Wear This.” Just kidding, I’m already weird enough I don’t need to draw that kind of attention…

…moving forward, here are a few key notes to keep in mind: 1) Much against my will, I’m sure I’ll be hitting the dance floor so the ability to throw a high kick and do a back flip are a must. 2) Fingers crossed I’ll be able to apply enough self-tanner in time for the wedding, but in the likely chance that I won’t please remember my Casper resemblance. 3) There is no number three, but things sound better in threes so just go with it.

And now I ask you to pretty, pretty please tell me, which of these dresses should I wear!?

  1. Diane Von Furstenberg Crochet-Paneled Halterneck Dress – $425
  2. Tibi Pleated Silk Chiffon Dress – $550
  3. Vanessa Bruno Silk Appliquéd Dress – $484
  4. Halston Heritage Waterfall Silk-Chiffon Dress – $365
  5. Proenza Schouler Full Halter Dress – $1450 or $175 via Rent the Runway
  6. Helmut Lang Tetra Silk Printed Dress – $530

Spring 2010: DIANE VON FURSTENBERG

September 15, 2009

Diane Von Furstenberg, who year after year creates aesthetically pleasing feminine looks, added a bit of a rustic/tribal edge to her collection this year. A mish mash of colors and prints danced down the runway in this bohemian gypsy meets Roman goddess inspired show. Shifty billowy dresses moved beautifully on the models who were each adorned with Romanesque crowns on their loosely crimped hair. Each design was a statement piece, a piece that makes a woman stand out amongst a crowd, much like Diane Von Furstenberg herself. Truly beautiful designs, yet again.
