BCBG Dinner

June 14, 2012

When Lubov Azria sends over a dress from her Fall 2012 collection for you to wear to an intimate dinner party hosted by BCBGMAXAZRIA, you have to pull out all the stops.

 Along with doing my hair – shocking, I know – I set aside some “me time”  to apply sparkly Sally Hansen Nail Strips that added the perfect touch of glittery punk glamour  - hello oxymoron – to my simple silhouette. What’s a stylish dinner party without a good manicure? Am I right!?

As for the dress, I fell in love with it’s sheer color blocking glory when it came billowing down the runway back in February. The top is actually 100% sheer, which on a model with no chest looks great, but on me?…not so much. After toying with a few different bras, I opted for a body hugging long sleeve black shirt that, thankfully, looked like it was part of the dress. Given more time I think I would have gotten away with a nude bandini or bandeau.

The dinner was held at Freeman’s Restaurant – one of my favorites in the city – and the meal itself did not disappoint. It was wonderful to be sitting in a room full of fellow editors and bloggers and Mrs. Azria herself who did a phenomenal job as hostess. I wish we could have a dinner party like this every week!

{ Giants game with my brother }

From the moment I stepped off the plane from Miami my schedule has been ‘whoa beans’ packed. With only one night at home to start hanging things up in my brand new closet (!) (post coming soon) I would say I’m quite pleased that it’s finally Friday. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a busy week, but sometimes all I want is a night with three of my closest friends: the remote control, the tv, and the couch. Great group.

Aside from finally getting my closet, some highlights from this week include a Giants game with my brother, the Asos Fall 2012 preview (get your wallets ready, this stuff is off the charts good!), and the Tommy Hilfiger Promise Collection event where I got to meet so many of you wonderful readers!

Now I’m off to wrap up this week before date night with my couch! Have a great weekend!

{ Saturated colors at Kenneth Cole’s Fall Preview }

It’s the final countdown! Next Friday I move to my new apartment, which means I must order in as much food in the Lower East Side as possible because I won’t be ordering it again for a very very very long time. That and the fact that my friend Anna and I spent all of Wednesday night drinking wine and packing up my kitchen. Plastic utensils here I come.

When I wasn’t packing this week my life was far more interesting – not difficult when it comes to cardboard living. Almost every morning and night was spent at fall collection previews, all of which will wreak havoc on my wallet come August. Kenneth Cole was a definite standout – he showed his collection in a dark, moody room that mirrored his line of saturated colors and textured fabrics (navy blue pony hair boots? Don’t mind if I do!).

And now it’s back to the cardboard! Have a great weekend! Kisses. Hugs. High Fives. Bye.

{ Cherry blossoms at the Macy’s Impulse x Alberta Ferretti party }

Well, hello there Friday! Good to see you!

This week put the hec in hectic. Between the back-to-back press appointments to having my credit card hacked to packing up my apartment, I seriously thought this weekend would never come! But here it is and I cannot wait to jump on a train to DC for some much needed family damily time.

But let’s rewind for a sizzling second and talk about these press appointments. I was blown away by everything I saw this week – fall is gonna be good you guys, really really reallaaaaaay good. Some standouts include three new favorite designers: Emm Kuo – a handbag line full of timeless pieces with just the right touch of edge, Rodebjer – a Swedish designer that does menswear as womenswear like no other, and lastly, Michael Spirito – the perfect punk-meets-class jewelry collection. Meow!

And now I need to go finish up my packing, give Finn a big smooch, and hit the road! Until Monday! Exclamation points!!

NYFW Photo Diary #2

February 18, 2012

I apologize for this wonky posting schedule, but I checked out for two days after Fashion Week. This brain needed rest.

But now I’m back. Brain turned on. Fingers ready for keyboard tickling. So without further ado, here’s a recap of NYFW round two (love when I accidentally rhyme).

Three of my favorite designers found themselves in my schedule for the last few days of Fashion Week. Olivier Theyskens of Theyskens’ Theory (doy), Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig of Marchesa, Francisco Costa of Calvin Klein, and of course, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler. I’m convinced they save the best collections for last because let me tell ya, the pieces and trends I saw earlier this week — oversized jackets, dropped hemlines, fur and gold embellishments, Asian-inspired silhouettes — all came together and became official in the following collections. Proenza Schouler really nailed the whole oversize, kimono-esque pieces, while Theyskens’ Theory made gold work in a non cheesy, blinged out way. And as for Marchesa, those two ladies may as well be the fairy godmothers of ballgowns, creating things only maids-turned-princesses-by-way-of-magic could wear.

My fashion week ended with a Guns N Roses concert, which was a simultaneously awesome and weird way to end such a high-heeled, pencil skirt week. But I was perfectly happy to trade in my stilettos for a comfy t-shirt and jeans.

Here are some photos from the last few days (I cut it down to just my favorites otherwise you’d be scrolling for two hours of photos…):

Theyskens’ Theory

Hooray for gold(en heels) and furry arm(pit)s!

Alice & Olivia

Stacey Bendet of Alice & Olivia sure knows how to throw a party presentation. I only wish I could have attended in that green Beetlejuice suit

Marchesa

Once again Marchesa kills me with beauty. That red dress is what my dreams are made of…that and puppies

Polyvore Live

One of my favorite bloggers, Julie Sarinana of Sincerely Jules workin’ it on the runway

Proenza Schouler

That’s a skirt people. A SKIRT!

Structured jackets. Powerful silhouettes. Fur bags. Woven leather heels. Proenza Schouler, you make my life complete.

Calvin Klein

The only somewhat focused photo I could capture. But just know this collection had Rooney Mara all over it (she was also in the front row. sha-wing!)

Nothing says the end of Fashion Week like a Guns n Roses concert…or does it?
