Peanut Butter & Jelly

November 19, 2012

Certain colors go together like peanut butter and jelly; no matter the brand or bread, pb & j will always taste good (I actually have a friend who just made pb & j using a tortilla) much like the fiery fall colors of orange, red, and yellow.

Yesterday, on a stroll through Central Park, I couldn’t help but notice my color coordination with the autumnal trees around me. I’m not normally that colorful of a dresser, but wearing such eye-catching and seasonal tones while everyone else around me was wearing black Lululemon while pushing their strollers around (the quintessential Sunday morning in Central Park) was a definite morning coffee perk for me.

And before you go thinking that the trees and I called each other the night before to plan matchy matchy outfits, think again. We didn’t talk; hell, I don’t even know these guys, though they were more than willing to let me swing on their branches.

Oxblood

September 18, 2012

Before each Fashion Week I get a little nervous wondering if the on-trend silhouettes and color palettes will be A-OK for little miss Sonia. I had a minor heart attack last Spring when every runway had an array of pastel colors as the light hues seriously wash me out. This fall however, is showing perhaps one of my favorite colors of all time, oxblood (otherwise known as maroon/burgundy for the PETA-enthusiasts).

I was browsing through AllSaints the other day with my friend Suz, blabbering about how we’re both in need of a new leather jacket this season. Normally, I would dive for black as it’s the most versatile “color” in my fall/winter wardrobe, but the buttery bloody ox leathers (ew) were calling my name. SooOooOooOoooooonia!!!

I showed major restraint by not purchasing anything, but the jackets I saw have positioned themselves at the forefront of my mind. Seeing these also launched my desire to infiltrate even more of my wardrobe with the dark moody color. I’ve long had the Proenza Schouler PS1 bag in burgundy on my “must-have” list, and let’s not forget that I dressed in an head-to-toe maroon outfit back in January.

In anticipation of the day that New York decides humidity is a climate of the past, here are some oxblood pieces I hope to sink my teeth into in the very near future.

Designer Spotlight: Clover Canyon

July 26, 2012

I first discovered Clover Canyon while meandering around my old neighbor hood in the Lower East Side. I popped my head into a little boutique and found myself pulling heavily patterned, billowy pieces off the racks. I wasn’t convinced they’d look good on me – I often need more structured pieces – but quickly discovered that these patterned delights were in fact quite flattering. They didn’t hug or pull in all those awkward no-no places.

I didn’t buy any of them (mistake), but made sure to check the tag so I could stalk whatever brand I was quickly falling for. Turns out it was Clover Canyon.

The label is designed by a woman named Rozae Nichols and is focused around her experiences of California landscapes and culture (figures why I love it all so much!). It was only started in 2011, which makes me think, if her pieces are already this good, I can’t even begin to imagine what will come in the next few seasons!

Below are some of my favorite current seasons:

{ The Mango Spring Collection preview }

Just as I was gearing up to start that pre-holiday season diet, I end up eating my way through the week. This week started with a ridiculously delicious pasta with two of my favorite ladies from StyleOwner followed by buckets of ricotta cheese at Locanda Verde for a charity event, and last night a bunch of my friends and I gathered for a “family dinner” with a homemade meal of short ribs, potatoes, brussel sprouts, and a cheese plate c/o yours truly. And it doesn’t stop there; one of my best friends is moving to Long Island to live with her boyfriend in the next couple of weeks, so tonight we’re celebrating with a delicious meal and perhaps a little karaoke if we’re feeling up to it.

Diet starts…when?

A Week in Review

{ Vintage inspired fabrics from Paul & Joe }

This week was long, exhausting, and entirely amazing. Starting off early Monday morning with a press preview for a number of my favorite designers including Paul & Joe to spending the rest of the week devoted entirely to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. It was incredible to be able to go backstage, see all the girls, and then watch them walk the runway in outfits that I could only dream of wearing…for Halloween that is. You can find my complete coverage of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on Modelinia.

I couldn’t be more thrilled that it’s Friday – especially because I woke up this morning, looked out the window and realized that Fall has officially arrived. It’s as if the trees changed their color over night. Or maybe I was just too busy to notice. Either way I can’t wait to enjoy all of it this weekend.
