Monochromie Homie

October 17, 2011

I’ve been really into monochromatic outfits lately – obviously my all black ensembles don’t count, but just the other day I wore red from head-to-toe and loved looking like a tomato. This look is obviously much more subtle but I love how polished grey looks when paired with similar charcoal hues.

The other great thing about this outfit is that it’s as comfortable as a grey sweatsuit. The trapeze shaped cashmere sweater is as cozy as wearing a blanket and trousers with a little breathing room are a nice change from my everyday skinny jeans. If both pieces came in multiple colors I would definitely own them; I mean how great would this outfit look in emeraldy greens?! Peacock blues?! MUSTARD YELLOWS!? Oy!

The good thing is that this is an easy look to re-create no matter what pieces you have in your closet (sweater and trousers? I know you all have some of those in your wardrobe), so stay tuned for something similar coming real soon…

† • Autumn Inspirations • †

August 23, 2011

My style and inspirations are always developing and changing, and this month I’ve been all about bohemian, gypsy flair. A lot of my style is based around whatever I feel most confident in that day and lately I’ve been flocking toward simple silhouettes with lots of jewelry and bulky boots. This is probably because I’m beyond sick of my summer clothes and impatiently awaiting fall. TICK TOCK HURRY UP!

So, as I begin to work on my Fall mood board I thought I’d share a few images of the things that are inspiring me this season. Feathers, the moon, the 70s, and worn in favorites – maybe I’m more predictable than I thought?

..Beckoning Fall..

August 17, 2011

August is a tough month. People are either away, enjoying their last bits of summer or they’re like me, cursing the continuing humidity and anxiously waiting for that first crimson leaf to emerge. Fall will forever be my favorite season mainly because I’m happiest when I can comfortably layer my clothing and can walk around without breaking a sweat.

There are few things more beautiful than autumn in New York; the streets become quieter, the trees transform into rainbows of oranges, reds, and yellows, people are pleasantly wrapped in light jackets or chunky knits, and there’s an unmatchable crispness in the air. I’ve already begun thinking of different outfits to wear once that first fall day really hits, and these are just a few items I wouldn’t mind adding to my roster.

  1. Topshop Silky Stripe Tee – $66
  2. Pamela Love Moon Sterling Silver Ring – $425
  3. Grace Choi Fur Collar – $21
  4. Stella McCartney Burgundy Trousers – $330
  5. Asos Wide Brim Fedora – $43.10
  6. Mother Denim Drama Jean – $148
  7. Victoria Horning ‘The Cluny’ Bag – $895
  8. Marc by Marc Jacobs Michaela Silk Dress – $498
  9. Forever21 Faceted Rhinestone Necklace – $12.80
  10. Rag & Bone Newbury Suede Bootie – $495

Festive Nails

November 15, 2010

Essie Top Coat $8; Nicole by OPI in ‘Kiss Me at Midnight’; L.A. Girl FLARE in ‘Red Sparkle’ $2.50 •

Nail polish is one of the best ways to embrace transitioning seasons. In spring I veer toward feminine pastels, summer calls for salmony pinks and coraly reds, and the fall and winter are perfect for warm grays and deep reds. This season however I’ve really been feeling glittery nails. Not only do they add a little sparkle to my everyday looks, but they are just the right touch of twinkle to get me that much more excited about the fast approaching holiday season.

For this set of sparkly nails I started with two coats of “Kiss Me at Midnight”, one of the latest holiday colors for Nicole by OPI. After that I used “Red Sparkle” by L.A. Girl Flare which is a festive mix of glittery red and silver. Lastly, to smooth everything out I finished with “Top Coat” by Essie which goes on smoothly and is relatively chip resistant. While I’m totally into this current nail color, I can’t wait to try out some other combinations once this starts chipping.

Cozy Corners

November 1, 2010

After a weekend of back-to-back parties and costuming, I could not be happier to be curled up on my couch in comfy sweatpants, non-stop movie watching and a cozy throw to keep me warm. The weather in New York this past weekend was perfect for Halloween, it was just warm enough that I didn’t have to cover up my costumes with some obnoxious overcoat and cool enough that I wasn’t sweating off my face paint. However, this morning as I threw on my sweatshirt to walk Finn I was confronted with icey cold winds and a temperature about 10 degrees cooler than I expected. So, as depressed as I am to say farewell to Fall, I’m looking forward to cozying up inside with hot tea and fuzzy blankets. Here are some photos that are getting me in that hibernating mood:
