Summer inspiration from the latest Free People catalog.
I wish I could say I find it fascinating when one person manages to ruin a perfectly good day, but really it just infuriates me. This happened to me this past week when I confidently sat down to a meeting and walked out feeling like the smallest molecule on the planet. There are some occasions when this happens that I can puff up my chest like a beefy guy at the gym and walk around as if no one can hurt me, but this week all I wanted to do was curl up in a ball under my covers and feel sorry for myself. And that’s exactly what I did. But you know what? I think that’s ok sometimes. Because puffing up your chest can be exhausting — and hard on the back — and from time to time we all just need a day to soak up feeling icky. Much like a bath, after a good ick soak I usually wind up feeling better. I’ve had that “woe is me” moment and now I can move on with my life. Which is just what I did the following day. I went on a run, I ticked everything off my to-do list, and treated myself to a glass of champagne during lunch.
I guess what I’m trying to say here is that no matter how strong we may be, certain people will always have an ability to slither their way into our weakest areas and make us feel bad about ourselves. But I think sometimes it’s better to acknowledge that bad feeling, see what made you feel that way, and then do some emotional sit ups to strengthen that area for the next time that evil human comes snaking about. And with that I bid you a good weekend surrounded by the people who make you feel great!

Not all of my outfit shoots are posted on here. This one didn’t make the cut.

I’m going to wear the dickens out of these two pairs of 7 for All Mankind jeans this spring! The dickens I tell ya!
I love a busy week. I may complain about the chaotic schedule Monday through Thursday, but once Friday hits I feel like a weekend of mellow-yellow time is that much more deserved. This week was scattered with lots of spring collection previews, a photo shoot, brainstorming meetings for fun new projects, and a super awesome cold that’s finally making its way out of me for the weekend.
This is one of my favorite times of year because spring collections are just beginning to hit the racks, which means lots and lots of mid-season sales (there are some really awesome ones happening on Yoox, Shopbop, and ForwardForward right now — you can thank me later). But alas I do not plan to spend my weekend swiping my credit card from dawn to dusk (though wouldn’t that be lovely were their no consequences). Instead I have my weekend booked up with Nora Ephron’s play Lucky Guy tonight, a fun lunch tomorrow, the musical Cinderella tomorrow night, and a celebratory birthday brunch in the park for Finn on Sunday. Seems to me that the winter slump has finally gone back into its dark hibernating hole and spring is here to play!

Morning light shooting into my room in Connecticut.

I have a lot of iPhone cases, but this one might be my favorite.

That time I took too much NyQuil and slept through my alarm only to be woken up by the team coming to shoot in my apt that morning.

Orange these the best sandals for spring/summer?

Happiest of birthdays to my wonderful little lamb Finnley!

Oh, this week; a remarkable combination of shitty and wonderful. Even as I try to bitch and moan about all it’s annoyances (i.e. getting locked out of my apartment with Finn while wearing boxers and zit cream on my face…), it also brought a bunch of new projects and a website re-design that looks like it will happen before the start of Fashion Week! Hoodily doodily!
This week’s happenings aside, Friday, boy am I happy to see you. This weekend feels kind of like my last summer hurrah as I’m going up to my house in Connecticut with a group of friends and probably won’t be back there until October. Depressing. But that just means it’s time to live it up! Am I right?
Now go enjoy the weekend!

When I woke up on Monday morning I thought to myself, “wow, this week is pretty low key! hoorah!” Boy, was I wrong. Every minute of every day was jam packed with work, events, meetings, and what nots. Thank goodness I love what I do! And while a couple shots of computer screens, notebooks, telephones, and my fingers typing on keyboards would best encapsulate this week’s happenings, I’d hate to bore you with such banal photographs. So instead, here are some fun, tasty, cute, and pretty images from all those minutes between the endless hours of work!

On Keeping the Goods

When I was packing up my closet, I was forced to make those major decisions on what to keep and what to get rid of. Many people use the “if you haven’t worn it in over a year, throw it out” motto, but that just doesn’t work for me. Just because I haven’t worn it in over a year doesn’t mean I won’t wear it again. This cape is the perfect example. The last time I wore this superhero piece was back in January 2011. Over a year indeed and yet it still sits toward the front of my closet waiting for the day that I’ll wear it again. This day was yesterday.
Most of my clothes are still stored away in boxes (my closet isn’t being built until next week), and I find it interesting that this cape was one of the last pieces I packed up, thus making it one of the more accessible articles in my apartment of cardboard. While it’s by no means an everyday piece – the whole shoulder bag thing just does not work with capes – it’s still one of my favorites and I have absolutely no intention of getting rid of it, even if I don’t wear it again for another year.
How do you go about deciding what to get rid of when you’re cleaning out your closet?
