Classic Updates

February 22, 2012

Despite my sometimes eccentric taste, I’m all about accumulating the classics, especially when it comes to clothes. But how many simple white button downs can one own without feeling like a boring men’s wardrobe? — Hamish Bowles and Mick Jagger are obviously excluded from that last statement. Designers like Alexander Wang, Maison Martin Margiela, and J.Mendel are constantly taking classic silhouettes and updating them with a modern flare that can be found in everything from a shirt tail to paper shoes.

A lot of today’s trends put emphasis on wearing the most outlandish pieces or layering as much as possible (guilty!) but sometimes all it takes to achieve an interesting outfit is one statement piece that’s simultaneously subtle and classic. A navy blazer is a perfect replacement to the black JP Morgan suit piece and a bright orange lip can work just as many wonders as the red lip everyone can’t seem to get enough of (see for yourself here).

As I start to prep for the inevitable closet Spring cleanse, here are a few classic yet modern pieces that I hope to add to my wardrobe.

Come Sale Away

September 13, 2011

Fall shopping has always been my favorite, but it also happens to be the most expensive. Leather jackets, sturdy boots and chunky sweaters are, for the most part, much pricier than summer dresses and cut-offs. While I’m still lusting after the items I featured in this post, I can’t help but be tempted by all the amazing sales happening right now. I’m amazed at how many clearance pieces are as functional for fall as they are for spring and summer! SHWING!

Here are some items I’m currently drooling over and most likely adding to my shopping cart before they go bye bye. Isn’t it the best when things you love are on sale!?

August 1, 2011

I’m so used to cocktail parties that involve awkwardly standing around while guzzling my drink in the hopes of numbing my feet from my pain-inducing heels. However, last week I went to an outdoor cocktail soiree where so much as an inch of heel would have looked ridiculous. Grass and stilettos don’t mix so well.  Happy to give my tootsies a breather, I slipped into this bright silk, chiffon dress and an old pair of sandals that transition seamlessly from day to night. But, I will say that once I got home from the party I immediately ran upstairs and put on jeans and a t-shirt because there are few things more comfortable than that.
