Angels on the Runway

November 9, 2010

Tomorrow is the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show (see my review from last year here), otherwise known as the biggest runway show in fashion…or…a runway full of the world’s most beautiful women half naked. It seems that with each year the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show gets that much bigger and more extravagant and this year is no exception. According to Modelinia there are going to be even more over-sized wings flying down the runway and Adriana Lima is set to wear a bra worth two million dollars in diamonds and jewels.

I can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like to harness on one of those extra heavy sets of wings and try to keep my composure in a next-to-nothing outfit while walking down a catwalk in front of hundreds of people…it’s no wonder these women are called “supermodels”.  Indeed, in a recent New York Times article, Guy Trebay notes that these angels are about as rare to the human population as a unicorn sighting in Central Park…

I can’t wait to see the new faces to the VS Angel line-up and how the designers up their incredible creations from last year. But until I can see the ensembles that grace this year’s runway I thought I’d pull together some of my favorite looks from seasons past.

VICTORIA’S SECRET FASHION SHOW

November 22, 2009

The Victoria’s Secret fashion show is one of the coolest shows on the runway. Stylist Charlotte Stockdale put together looks that one would think only someone like Tim Burton would think of. From balloon trains and feathered wings to bras that would make a 90 year old woman’s boobs perkier than a 16 year old’s, this years show was a dazzling success. Thanks to Modelinia, VS fans were able to see how just about everything gets put together. With live streaming from backstage and personal interviews with the models, it almost felt as though I was there.

It’s incredible to see all these big time models coming together for a show that is all about women and their divine sexiness. :) Heidi Klum! Marissa Miller! Alessandra Ambrosio! What a line-up! Even if they weren’t covered in glitter, these models would sparkle down the runway. And not just because they’re stunning, but because you can just tell how happy and excited they are to be there and the fun that they are having.

Heidi (CROW) Klum

November 4, 2009

I love getting into the spirit of Halloween, but no matter how hard I try I don’t think I’ll ever be able to pull it off quite as well as Mrs. Heidi Klum. Each Halloween she seems to throw the party of the year that all celebs, models and socialites bust their claws and horns out to attend. But it doesn’t stop there…Heidi also manages to come up with some of the most creative, extravagant and mind boggling costumes. From an Eve’s Apple costume and Hindu Goddess Kali to a Demonic Cat, Heidi lives up to her Halloween motto that “more is more”.

This year Heidi dressed up as a crow inspired by her daughters favorite movie Howl’s Moving Castle by Hayao Miyazaki. She used both a mixture of real feathers and fabric made feathers which surprisingly gave the costume more depth and texture as well as a sexy, almost dominatrix feel. Also, it’s pretty amazing that she got Seal to do it too! What a pair!!!
