Out on a Brim
Yesterday as I was doing some of my Christmas shopping at All Saints I couldn’t help but try on their Salerno Fedora, a perfectly sculpted menswear inspired hat that I ended up wearing around the store while shopping for friends and family. I didn’t end up buying it which I now kind of regret, but it reminded me just how much I love a good fedora. In the summertime I’m rarely seen without one of my straw ones (see here), and in the fall/winter I find nothing adds texture to a bundled up look quite like my vintage felt fedora.
While some trends may come and go, the fedora trend has stood the trend test of time in womens wear. In 1937 silver screen siren Carole Lombard looked particularly fantastic wearing a fur fedora (see below), and today it’s impossible to browse through a street style blog or tabloid magazine without seeing at least one style icon sporting one of these gangster-inspired hats. So, in my efforts to find new ways to wear my fedoras instead of buying a new one, here are some sartorial inspirations for rocking these ever popular sturdy brimmed, wooly felt hats.

Lindsay is in the latest issue of Muse Magazine photographed by Yu Tsai. Apparently the shoot was based around Johnny Depp and Kate Moss’ relationship in the 90s.
Well, I get the theme and everything, but Lindsay definitely put her own edge into it. I might even go as far as to say it has a hint of Sid and Nancy in it…

Whitney Museum Gala Studio Party
Lindsay Lohan, Donatella Versace, Byrdie Bell, Mischa Barton, Alexa Chung and other celebs and socialites gathered for the annual Whitney Gala. I was not overly enthusiastic about some of the clothing choices for this event. Taylor Momsen needs to stop wearing sheer thigh highs, and Lindsay Lohan is a little TOO blonde (but I love her regardless), and as always Alexa Chung looked adorable.

Spring 2010: EMANUEL UNGARO
Emanuel Ungaro’s collaboration with Lindsay Lohan was pretty cheese and girly. Pepto bismol pinks, electric blues and kelly greens were all adorned with a heart motif that seemed best suited for Paris Hilton, not fashion guru’s that sit front row at YSL. That being said, there were some very nice silhouettes: short dresses that demand a stellar pair of stems, and some fitted blazers. However, all the clothes were at a fine line between classy and trashy…and the little heart pasties certainly didn’t help.
There are definitely some pieces in this collection that I would want in my closet, but as a whole, it was nothing we haven’t seen before. A lot of sites really ragged on Lindsay for this collection, saying that she should rebirth her acting career, and I have to say that I disagree. For her first “real” collection, this is pretty impressive. I think we can expect to see her designs and ideas blossom into something quite lovely if she’s given the opportunity to do so.
