From where I sat for three days straight.

After a full month of non-stop travel and events, I cannot stress how happy I am to be home for the long foreseeable future. As much as I love the idea of a jet-setting life, there’s something to be said for the comfort of your own bed, a full refrigerator, and the ability to watch an entire season of Game of Thrones without the guilt of not going outside on a sunny day. I guess what I’m saying is that while I love to travel, I also love my couch. We’re good friends. Supportive of one another, even in the darkest of times. So I’m going to take it pretty easy this weekend (i.e. marathoning all three seasons of Arrested Development) since next weekend is Memorial Day and who knows what kind of shenanigans that will bring. Adios!

Bags all packed and ready to go for Miami (bienvenido a Miami).

This was a short week for me as today, at this very moment, I am on a plane to Miami for my friend Sevan’s bachelorette party. Break out the strippers, matching bikinis, and inflatable penises! Just kidding. It’s not going to be anything like that. Anyhoo(ters), I’ve finally taken into account that we are out of the blustery winter season since I have not reached for a downcoat once in the past month. This naturally beckons the start of short shorts and rosé, and while I have yet to reach for shorts on a daily basis (let’s not get ahead of ourselves here), I have embraced the rosé season with open arms and an open mouth. Thankfully, I’m a teeny weeny step closer to announcing a big update on here (I’m such a tease, I know), which is grounds for celebration; therefore making my rosé intake totally appropriate. Right?

Cheers to the weekend!

Miami Breeze

April 23, 2012

And I’m back from Miami without any semblance of a tan or sunburn thanks to a day of endless rain and thunderstorms that let up just in time for the wedding ceremony. The wedding was so beautiful (and emotional!) and as for the reception? I don’t think I’ve ever danced so much in my life! I’m not one to cut a rug, but there was something about being with my best friends and adopted family that had me throwing all inhibitions out the window and tearing up the dance floor until it was time to go home. The dress you guys picked out for me also played a major role in my dance-a-thon. All that billowy fabric served as a major asset to the dance moves I didn’t even know I had in me. But let’s keep talking about the dress…

When it first arrived I was so skeptical. It was a total tent on me and looked more like a nightgown than an evening dress fit for a Miami wedding. But after some trial and error I cinched the waist with a red belt that ended up adding a nice pop of color to the breezy look. I completed the outfit by matching my lipstick to the belt, keeping things neutral on my feet, and going for some much needed sparkle by way of my clutch.

Now the next challenge is making this dress casual for a summer day in the city. Thank you all for picking something so beautiful for me to wear!

Samudra

April 4, 2012

I have sat on a toadstool for far too long thinking about whether or not I should buy a Samudra clutch. Why? I have no idea. I just never jumped on it. But I finally bit the bullet (a small bullet at that, these babies are $60 each. Not bad if I do say so myself.) and am now back on my toadstool waiting for it to arrive, hopefully in time for my upcoming trip to Miami.

Aren’t they just the perfect  pop of color/graphic for a warm summer night? Long white dress, wavy beach hair, sunburn golden tan, Kenny G playing in the background…kidding.

Can you guess which one I bought?

Dress Me, Please!

March 20, 2012

In exactly one month I will be in Miami for a friend’s wedding and I have no idea what to wear. Ok, lies. I have some ideas, but I’d love your input! While I should could go the economical route and wear something I already have, that’s far too boring for me and the likes of Miami, not to mention that half the fun of such an event is having something new to wear!

I’ve narrowed down my disgustingly large wishlist of dresses to six pieces, and it’s from here that I’d like to leave the final selection in your hands. Seriously, if you don’t start barking out some choices I’m going to show up at the wedding in a paper bag that says “My Readers Made Me Wear This.” Just kidding, I’m already weird enough I don’t need to draw that kind of attention…

…moving forward, here are a few key notes to keep in mind: 1) Much against my will, I’m sure I’ll be hitting the dance floor so the ability to throw a high kick and do a back flip are a must. 2) Fingers crossed I’ll be able to apply enough self-tanner in time for the wedding, but in the likely chance that I won’t please remember my Casper resemblance. 3) There is no number three, but things sound better in threes so just go with it.

And now I ask you to pretty, pretty please tell me, which of these dresses should I wear!?

  1. Diane Von Furstenberg Crochet-Paneled Halterneck Dress – $425
  2. Tibi Pleated Silk Chiffon Dress – $550
  3. Vanessa Bruno Silk Appliquéd Dress – $484
  4. Halston Heritage Waterfall Silk-Chiffon Dress – $365
  5. Proenza Schouler Full Halter Dress – $1450 or $175 via Rent the Runway
  6. Helmut Lang Tetra Silk Printed Dress – $530
