She Bangs

I’m reaching one of those periods in my life where I have mixed feelings about my hair and am not sure how I want to “change it”. I went through these periods quite a lot in high school and thus dyed my hair a variety of different colors and tried out a number of different cuts. Then once I hit college I pretty much stuck with the same look (aside from dying it this dreadful purple-y red for a play), long wavy hair, with blond highlights and BANGS!

This is the first time in YEARS that I haven’t had bangs and I’m beginning to feel a little nostalgic for them. While the hot humid summers in NYC are no place for a new set of bangs, I can’t help thinking about changing up my look this coming fall/winter. Here are some looks that get my hair styling wheels crankin’:

Whitney Museum Gala Studio Party

Lindsay Lohan, Donatella Versace, Byrdie Bell, Mischa Barton, Alexa Chung and other celebs and socialites gathered for the annual Whitney Gala. I was not overly enthusiastic about some of the clothing choices for this event. Taylor Momsen needs to stop wearing sheer thigh highs, and Lindsay Lohan is a little TOO blonde (but I love her regardless), and as always Alexa Chung looked adorable.

Spring 2010: MARCHESA

Marchesa’s s/s 2010 collection was, as per usual, full of beautiful dresses and gowns. While I tend to like more of Georgina Chapman’s (designer for Marchesa) more classic designs, I still found this years collection to be quite lovely. Some dresses were fluid and graceful, evoking a grecian goddess look, while others were stiffly structured like oragami. I can already see some of these looks at awards shows. From Mischa Barton to Kate Winslet, Marchesa has nailed the red carpet look yet again.

it girl: Byrdie Bell

It-Girl Byrdie Bell is a NYC socialite and an aspiring actress.

Byrdie is of Norwegian decent and was born in Chicago. Her father is a NY Times best-selling author and her mother is a jewelry designer living in Greenwich, CT. While all of that seems rather simple, she happens to be the relative of the royal family of Norway…which explains a lot about her socialite status.

While her look is quite simple, she is able to pull off some aspiring fashion trends that fit right in with the other it-girls and socialites of NYC. With an eye for fashion and a plethora of popular friends, Byrdie has become a much sought after subject by party photographers such as Patrick McMullan and JT White.

Although (according to IMDB) Byrdie has only done two movies in her acting career, she has done quite well for herself in the modeling industry; she was signed to FORD Models in 2008 and is said to have appeared in Vogue more times than Nicole Kidman.

There’s a natural seductiveness to her that makes her stand out amongst the crowd of “it-girls”. With her tall lean figure and her luscious long hair, she reminds me of a mixture between a young Elle Macpherson and Denise Richards.

I must say that I was surprised to see that she only had 8 pages in her thread on the fashion spot, but I think her career as a socialite/actress/model has only just begun. There’s no way that a girl like Byrdie Bell who has invitations to countless fashion shows and events stays under the radar. Get ready to see Byrdie a lot more…this is only the beginning.

Last night was the Charlotte Ronson/JC Penney Summer BBQ Party in NYC. It looked like a really cute, pink event.

A bunch of people attended…obviously the Ronson gang, Alexa Chung, Mischa Barton, Byrdie Bell, Zoe Kravitz, Sean Lennon, Anabelle Dexter-Jones…the list goes on.

Who do you think was the best dressed?? I think Alexa Chung looks so classic but according to her twitter she was dying of heat because it was a wool sweater dress. I also think Anabelle Dexter-Jones looks so summer sweet and cute…pefect for a “summer bbq”. I especially love the floral underneath her sheer shirt.
