It currently feels like the start of Spring in New York, which of course gives me anxiety because you just know there’s going to be a giant snowstorm in the middle of Fashion Week, but I have my fingers and toesies and eyeballs crossed that the crisp, sunny weather sticks like the snow should be doing right about now.

Though I’ve been staring longingly out the window at the perfect weather while being chained to my desk with Fashion Week prep, this week has been surprisingly manageable (calm before the snow storm?). This weekend however, is going to be one giant whirlwind as I finalize schedules, attend a few fittings, start my apartment search (wh0 slipped me those crazy pills, honestly?), and of course, the Super Bowl, otherwise known as nachos fest. I’m hoping to get a bit of rest in there somewhere because there’s no need to get bags under my eyes before Fashion Week, since it’s pretty good at doing that for me by day 3. God, I love Fashion Week season!

I know you guys were expecting a “Week in Review” for today, but let’s mix things up shall we?

Ok. Here we go!

The first store on my Mastercard Priceless New York shopping tour list is Flying A, where affordable casual chic jeans, jackets, and jumpers hangout with 1960s boho dresses and romper boots. I admittedly had never heard of this store before but now have it wedged into my hefty list of must-stop Soho shops. I must have tried on over eight pairs of their colorful denim this past weekend and am still cursing myself for not buying a pair of Pour la Victoire chestnut brown boots. Another item on my “curse myself for not buying” list are some ridiculously cute necklaces with teeny tiny animal charms (and when I say teeny tiny I mean it – a little piggy’s tail was less than a centimeter long!). As much as I try to convince myself that my style is sophistication at it’s finest, I have a serious weakness for cute animal accessories. Luckily, now that Flying A is on my radar I’ll have plenty of other opportunities to buy the aforementioned boots and necklaces and all those other pieces I deem as “necessities.”

Since this weekend was full of sleeping bag coats (hello freezing temperatures), football gear (go niners), and cozy sweatshirts (love those hoodies), I decided to toss in a wildcard and get a bit more dressed up on Sunday night. Pairing perhaps the world’s most unexpectedly versatile blouse with some figure flattering skinny jeans, a sparkly clutch and Roberto Cavalli heels, I felt like I was having a Carrie Bradshaw moment ready to take New York by storm and hit up one of those notorious Sex and the City clubs (can I reference this show enough?). Instead I ventured to the Upper East Side and promptly slipped back into sweats to watch the Golden Globes. Though a bold attempt, sometimes a weekend commands comfy clothing and there ain’t nothin’ wrong with that.

We all know how much I love me some monochromatic looks, so naturally when I purchased this pair of Current/Elliott jeans I knew it was only a matter of time before I dabbled in the burgundy/red mash up (*note: this could also be because I’m not drinking this month and am admittedly having some red wine withdrawls).

I threw this outfit together in the very last minute before a brunch with some friends on Sunday and have to say, I’m quite pleased with the results (which is a rarity when I just throw a few pieces together without so much as a glance in the mirror). Now I know what you’re all thinking, “Sonia, you need to stop wearing those Acne boots, it’s getting old,” and I hear you, I really do. But here’s the thing, I CAN’T STOP! They are hands down the best shoes I have ever owned and it’s a daily struggle not to wear them all the time, even though it already seems like I do. They’re like the black skinny jeans of shoes in my wardrobe – just when I think I’m ready to move on, I slip them on and poof! my outfit is 1,323,252,313 times better than it was before.

I’m still knee deep in Fashion Week – I have Frosty the Snowman charcoal eyes, zits on my face, and a whopping five blisters on my feet from all the shoesies I’ve been wearing. All glitz and glamor, right? Not entirely. But I’ve been having an amazing time! I’ve never covered so many shows in a season and I’ve gotten to meet some incredible people – including LARA STONE (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), more details to come later in the week!

I thought I’d give a little tribute to some of the shoes I’ve been busting out all week by featuring them in a post with a link to an outfit of me wearing them. I haven’t worn a lot of these shoes in ages, so it’s nice to have them back in rotation, even if some of them give me blisters so painful I’m taken back to my days as a ballerina in pointe shoes.

Aside from the Barbie tennis shoes I wouldn’t take off as a toddler, I’ve always been much more of a bag and jewelry person than a shoe person. But oh how the times have changed. I’m slowly but surely building my designer shoe collection, and while many of them aren’t featured here, you can bet your bottom dollar that they’re sitting nice and cozy in their shoe boxes just waiting to be worn!

A few weekends ago my friend Erin and I rode our bikes to Fort Greene to eat some treats and wander around the Brooklyn Flea. Some of you may recall me writing about the indoor portion Brooklyn Flea a little over a year ago (see here), but the Brooklyn Flea I’m referring to in this post is outdoors (as a flea market should be) and only open between April and November.

There are few things I love more than a good flea market. Aside from my love of rummaging through other people’s “junk,” (my brother’s and I actually used to go dumpster diving…), I also draw a lot of my inspiration from just walking around and seeing what other people are selling. For example, I’d been in the market for a new way to organize my make-up and perfumes but was stumped as to how I wanted to go about it. Then I saw this mirrored tray at the Flea and boom!, suddenly I had a new way to display my products!

What I love about Brooklyn Flea is that the food is equally as important as the shopping vendors. Lobster rolls, watermelon juice, brisket, and tacos are just a few of the delicious goodies surrounding the flea market premises and I only wish I had the time and room to to try it all. Erin and I had plans to eat lunch at a nearby restaurant so I only got some watermelon juice and sliced mango, but it’s a rare occasion that I pass up a lobster roll…or a taco…or a Porchetta sandwich.

Although I went to the Flea just a few weeks ago, I’m hoping that, weather permitting, I’ll have a chance to go back sometime this weekend. If not for a vintage watch, then at least for the amazing lobster rolls…yum!

Isn’t amazing how a week can go by so slowly and then poof! it‘s Friday!? That was this week fo sho. Even though I didn’t have a lot going on in terms of events and meetings, it seemed like any time I tried to grab a second for myself another task came popping up on my to-do list, thus leaving me strapped to my desk chair. At least I got some time in to hang out with dinosaurs though…

The highlight of this week however, was last night’s Anthropologie event which was hands down one of the best events I’ve ever been to (*note this isn’t a sponsored post by any means – I seriously did have a fantastic time!). Not only was their showroom filled with candies that make Willy Wonka’s factory look like a dump, but the upcoming collection was beautifully displayed all around the space and my fellow bloggers and I each got to style and model a look made up of the new pieces! I’m always a little awkward when I have to pose for a picture in front of people I don’t know, but as most situations require in life, I decided to kick that awkwardness in the face and did my best not to pose with a double chin…

As for this weekend, I already have a ton on the agenda. Tonight my friend Ally and I are heading over to The Lot on the Highline (an outdoor spot filled with yummy food trucks and brews) and on Saturday I promised Finn we’d hit up the dog park and then I’m off to dinner with my favorite foodie, Erin!

Obvi this one goes without saying, but she’s too cool not to feature. What I love about Chloë Sevigny’s style is that it doesn’t necessarily fit into a single category but it’s certainly eclectic. Her red carpet looks always have a sophisticated edge and in terms of her day-to-day looks? who doesn’t love a good vintage tee and a pair of Doc Martens?! I’m pretty sure she invented the denim cut-off and no one looks better in sockies and sandals than she does.

This is the first of my “style icons” that had me online shopping/browsing equally as much as finding suitable photos for this post. As if I didn’t already want all of the Chloë Sevigny x Opening Ceremony collections, seeing her wearing every piece made me want them even more. Hello eBay, we meet again.  Or for that matter, if anyone is a size 8 or 8.5 and selling any of her shoes – email me stat!!!

There’s such a unique simplicity to her look that makes her style feel totally attainable but at the same time somewhat difficult to pull off. There’s no denying that Chloë’s got an attitude that makes rocking head-to-toe Louis Vuitton look just as easy as a pair of broken in Levi’s and a vintage Cramps tee (yet another item I’ve been coveting for years). Chloë, if you’re reading this, I’d love at least half of your wardrobe.

I love July. It’s the heart of summer and all I want to do is be outside with friends and family enjoying life. I’m heavily anticipating a month filled with homemade goodies, sun hats and outdoor activities like swimming, croquet and beer pong, although I suck at all three. I also predict that I will lose at least one pair of sunglasses, fall off my bike a few times and wind up with at least 30 mosquito bites by the end of the month. I may physically be back in NYC but my heart, mind and itchy bug bites are on the shore.

Someone recently asked me to describe my personal style and I think I looked at them with a blank expression for about half a minute before mumbling out some long description that made me sound like a pretentious poop. Truth be told I don’t think I really have a style that can be categorized, I’m really a day-t0-day type of person. However, I’ve been putting a lot more thought into it and I’d like to think that my style is a melting pot of all the places that I love in the world – a little California girl, a little Parisian bourgeois, a little edgy New Yorker…no? Or perhaps a mix of the eras that I love – 1920s flapper meets 1940s sophistication meets 1960s hippie meets 1980s punk? Golly gosh I just don’t know. See how jumbled I am about this!?
