Ted Baker suited me up nice and freshy fresh for NYFW!
It wouldn’t be Fashion Week without a proper storm, and Finding Nemo is just in time to put a damper (ha! a pun, though not intended) on my footwear selections. It’s quite impossible to look sleek while there’s sleet on the ground, especially when you’re prone to sidewalk slipping like me. But with every onslaught of rain or pilage of snow, Fashion Week manages to pull through with undaunted street style photographers huddling outside waiting for the stylish crew that says “to hell with this weather”. And the poor models, bless their teenage hearts, brave the cold and dash from show to show, many without a driver to escort them.
As for me, I’ve decided it’s rain boots and ponchos until this weather lets up. I may be daring about many a thing, but I’ve already chipped a tooth from slipping in the snow thanks to an inappropriate shoe choice once and I don’t plan on making the same mistake twice.
I’ll update you on my fashion week take aways soon, but until then peep some of the other happening’s in the world of Sonia.

NYFW Photo Diary #1

Hello from the depths of Fashion Week! I’m going to have to make the writing portion of this post short and sweet since I need to be up in 5 hours and am working on a deadline, but I couldn’t not share some photos from the past few days! So far my favorite collections have been Rag & Bone, Prabal Gurung, Helmut Lang, Suno, and Jill Stuart. No surprise there seeing as how they’re all some of my favorite designers.
As for my sanity? Things have been going pretty smoothly aside from the fact that the memory card closure to my Canon snapped off and I thus cannot use it. Other than that it’s been a whirlwind of fun and I can’t wait for the next few days of fashion adventure! Be sure to follow me on twitter, instagram, and tumblr for of the minute updates.
I’ll be back tomorrow; until then, check out these photos from the first few days of NYFW (*note: I wasn’t able to snag photos at every show, but these are some of the highlights).

What my life looks like behind the behind-the-scenes during NYFW
It’s Here
New York Fashion Week is officially here! I’m off to the tents in t-minus 10 minutes for a full day of shows, but instead of providing you with the usual “What’s In My Bag” post, I thought I’d share two categories of essentials that I cannot live without (especially this week).
Category 1: the Technology

Holy frijoles, what would I do without my iPad? I admit I don’t use it that often in the off-season (did I just equivocate Fashion Week to baseball/football?), but man does this little gadget save me from endless nights without sleep.
Book worm alert! If I’ve got any time to spare between shows you can either find me feverishly blogging on the aforementioned pad-of-wonder or flipping through the faux pages of Gloria Steinem’s biography on my Kindle.
I would discuss the camera that’s glued to my hip, but I think that’s kind of stating the obvious…
on to Category 2: the Makeup

As much as I’d like to think I’m one of those girls that can just roll out of bed looking maaaah-velous, I’m not. And though I rarely carry makeup around with me, I find that a hectic day of running from one end of the city to the other can really take a toll on my appearance. Thankfully, I’ve discovered three products that have saved me from some serious humiliation once the street style cameras start their clicking.
Elf Cosmetic’s Under Eye Concealer and Highlighter might as well be called a magic wand. It not only conceals the dark circles that pile up under my eyes, but it also covers up all those lack of sleep pimples and simultaneously works as a highlighter when I need a little pick-me-up on my cheekbones.
The Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler, a.k.a. my godsend. One quick curl on my lashes and poof!, my eyes are so open it’s like I’ve had five cups of coffee.
I get chapped lips like nobodies business. One gust of wind and my lips turn into the Sahara Desert. L’Occitane Moisturizing Lip Balm has been my lifesaver on more than one occasion and I’m not ashamed to say that I’ve also used it as a hand moisturizer in desperate situations.
So there you have it – two polar opposite categories that come together in a week of never ending fashion.
Stay tuned for my fashion show recaps in the next few days and in the meantime follow me on instagram and twitter for up to date Fashion Week adventures!

{ Teddy bear stole my new KARL by Karl Lagerfeld collar }
It currently feels like the start of Spring in New York, which of course gives me anxiety because you just know there’s going to be a giant snowstorm in the middle of Fashion Week, but I have my fingers and toesies and eyeballs crossed that the crisp, sunny weather sticks like the snow should be doing right about now.
Though I’ve been staring longingly out the window at the perfect weather while being chained to my desk with Fashion Week prep, this week has been surprisingly manageable (calm before the snow storm?). This weekend however, is going to be one giant whirlwind as I finalize schedules, attend a few fittings, start my apartment search (wh0 slipped me those crazy pills, honestly?), and of course, the Super Bowl, otherwise known as nachos fest. I’m hoping to get a bit of rest in there somewhere because there’s no need to get bags under my eyes before Fashion Week, since it’s pretty good at doing that for me by day 3. God, I love Fashion Week season!
