Miami Breeze

April 23, 2012

And I’m back from Miami without any semblance of a tan or sunburn thanks to a day of endless rain and thunderstorms that let up just in time for the wedding ceremony. The wedding was so beautiful (and emotional!) and as for the reception? I don’t think I’ve ever danced so much in my life! I’m not one to cut a rug, but there was something about being with my best friends and adopted family that had me throwing all inhibitions out the window and tearing up the dance floor until it was time to go home. The dress you guys picked out for me also played a major role in my dance-a-thon. All that billowy fabric served as a major asset to the dance moves I didn’t even know I had in me. But let’s keep talking about the dress…

When it first arrived I was so skeptical. It was a total tent on me and looked more like a nightgown than an evening dress fit for a Miami wedding. But after some trial and error I cinched the waist with a red belt that ended up adding a nice pop of color to the breezy look. I completed the outfit by matching my lipstick to the belt, keeping things neutral on my feet, and going for some much needed sparkle by way of my clutch.

Now the next challenge is making this dress casual for a summer day in the city. Thank you all for picking something so beautiful for me to wear!

Meow Mix

April 19, 2012

I may flake out on things or cancel a dinner plan here and there, but if there’s one thing I’ll keep my word on, it’s purchasing cat clothing. Remember when I talked about my obsession with feline print clothing, particularly the Glamour x Opening Ceremony cat sweater collab? No? Meow? Fine. Well, I did (here), and true to my word here I wear my very own kitty sweater.

Though I’ve worn this sweater on more than one occasion (yesterday in my office, and I quote, “Oh! It’s the cat sweater again” — awkward), I really can’t wait until I’ve worked up just enough of a tan to pair it with denim cut offs and some bare legs. Enough of this wishy washy weather, get me to Miami! I need some sun.

Admit it, I totally look like this cat.

Ziggy Ziggy

April 16, 2012

As someone who pretty much lives in black jeans, you can imagine that I was quite skeptical about this whole printed jeans phenomenon. Not only are they frequently unflattering, but I tend to enjoy leaving the patterned pieces in my wardrobe to dresses, skirts, shirts, and all the other articles of clothing that don’t encase the legs. Printed sausage casings. No thanks!

Or so I thought…

A few weeks ago I went to the 7 For All Mankind showroom to peep some of their upcoming collections and ended up spending most of my time stalking this one girl wearing the pants you see me wearing in this very outfit post. As you might suspect, once I saw them it was only a matter of seconds before I harassed the aforementioned girl to find out who makes them and where I can find them. Turns out they’re by 7 – go figure – and within a few short weeks I was stepping into my very own pair. I admit they’re still a challenge for me to work with – horizontal stripes on the legs? Usually a major nono for me, but there’s something about those zig zags that I just couldn’t shy away from. And that my friends, is how printed jeans made their way into my closet. End scene.

A Week in Review

April 13, 2012

{ Paris day dreaming… }

I’m in love with my new apartment. In love. We’re getting married. I can’t even begin to explain how wonderful it is to wake up in the morning on a cute quiet street and go to bed at night with a view of the Empire State Building. So maybe I’m still living out of boxes, but each day my new place feels more and more like home.

As you can imagine, a significant portion of this week was spent attending to my new place, moving furniture around and making sure everything feels juuust right, kind of like Goldie Locks. This weekend I’m hoping to paint my living room and spend some quality time wandering around my new neighborhood. How many restaurants can I fit in my stomach in one weekend? I’ll let you know come Monday…

The Essential

April 11, 2012

Ok, how have I gone this long without a white blazer? I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to switch out the basic black for a crisp white, especially since they both go with just about everything!

When I was putting all my clothes into boxes last week, I made sure to keep the essentials out so they’d be easily accessible during the two weeks that I’m forced to live without a closet (painful). Never before did I think that a white blazer would be a Sonia essential but oh, how it is. I only blog about 2-3 outfit posts a week (as you’re well aware) but let me just say this blazer has made its way into almost all of my daily outfits ever since I received it a few weeks ago.  So if you’re aren’t picking up on the message I’m trying to portray here, allow me to lay it out more clearly: if you don’t already own a white blazer, go out and buy one this very second. Seriously, run…don’t walk!
