Daddy Long Legs

May 10, 2012

As much as I love a high-waisted skirt, the whole high-waisted pants thing has never really felt “right” for me. For starters, all I can ever think about is that scene in Dazed and Confused when the girls have to zip each others pants up with pliers (for those of you who don’t know this movie, well, I’m sorry). And the other factor in my high-waisted pants debacle is that they can sometimes make me feel too, for lack of a better word, womanly. Hubba hubba.

Having said all that, this marvelous pair of extra high-waisted, extra long, extra red Alice & Olivia pants are a whole other can of hot pepper high-waisted worms. They’re almost too long for me (I have to wear at least 5 inch heels with them), they’re almost too high for me (they fasten well above my belly button), and they’re almost too red for me (I wore them on New Years and was heckled “thats a lot of red…” it is, creepy heckler, it is). But despite all that too much crap, they happen to be one of my most beloved pairs of pantalónes in my closet. Along with being the closest thing to pajamas in fabric, they make my legs look like they’re a mile long which, let’s face it, is never a bad thing. Unless you’re actually a Daddy Long Legged spider in which case, I am going to squish you. Too da loo.

Designer Spotlight: Charlotte Olympia

February 7, 2012

I’ve decided to add another element to my blog. Meet the “Designer Spotlight” where I plan to showcase designers that put me on an emotional roller coaster with their beautiful creations. First up, Charlotte Olympia. You may know her because you stalk her designs like me, or perhaps you recognize those kitty heels frequently seen in flat form on Alexa Chung, but in the chance that you don’t know who she is or what she makes, allow me to show you a few of my recent favorites.

Along with sky scraper heels that will put you face-to-face with the Jolly Green Giant, she also designs structured clutches that are simultaneously architectural, modern, and elegant. Check out Miss Clear Lucite down yonder ↓ — ain’t she a beaut?! But if a see-through clutch has you fearing that the world will see your Hello Kitty iPhone case or tampons, fear not because it also comes with clothed inserts of snow leopard, denim, and all those other must-have fabrics.

As for the aforementioned sky scraper heels, she’s quite well known for her golden mega platforms, but I’m obsessed with her mix matched booties made of two different animal prints. While I don’t own any Charlotte Olympia – she’s one of those Wish List/Save-up-to-buy designers for me – I’ll have you know that those kitty heels have been high on my list for quite some time, and her Spring 2012 collection (see bottom photo), well, it should come as no surprise that I want leaves on my feet.

Ponchos + Platforms

January 25, 2012

I talked about them and here they are; the Burberry London platforms I’ve been kicking and screaming over ever since I saw them on Miroslava Duma during Fashion Week, and at a fraction of the price might I add.. I admit their height took a little while to get used to (I might have almost toppled down the stairs while running to catch the subway) but they’re surprisingly comfortable and well, this won’t be the last time you see them. As for the poncho concoction I’m wearing, thanks to yesterday’s warmer temperatures (50° and sunny in January? Ok, NYC, I’ll take it!) I was delighted to leave my coats on their hangers and wear something less bulky but still perfectly cozy. Now the question is, how long will this “heat wave” last?

Eating hair is cool…

Shoe Candy

August 11, 2010

When it comes to situations where I’m forced to wear a LBD or a relatively basic get-up, I always try to spice up my ensemble with bright, bold accessories. While chunky bangles and layered necklaces certainly play a significant role in adding some texture, I find that nothing really livens up an outfit like a pair of brightly colored heels. Believe it or not, finding a good pair of colorful heels isn’t as easy as one would think…much like an LBD, little black heels are much easier to come by than a pair of turquoise blue stilettos.

With my brother’s fiance’s bachelorette party this weekend, fashion week (*gasp!*) only a few weeks away, and my brother’s wedding at the end of September, I am definitely going to be needing a few pairs of spiffy new colorful heels to brighten up my closet. Here are some that I’m considering:

  1. Manolo Blahnik Deci – $665
  2. Sergio Rossi Pointed Court Shoe – $194
  3. Donna Karan Minx Sandal – $482
  4. Aldo Orpin Heel – $50
  5. Pura Lopez Suede Sandal – $103
  6. Steve Madden Caryssa Heel – $90
  7. Christian Louboutin Lady Bow – $735
  8. Gianmarco Lorenzi Multi-Strap Satin Sandal – $246
  9. Butter Women’s Platform Sandal – $258
