Welcoming Winter

One of the reasons I decided to stay on the east coast after graduating college instead of moving back to California is because of my love for seasons. While at times winter can feel unbearably long, I have to admit that I get just as equally excited for the icy cold season as I do for crisp springs, hot summers, and chilly autumns. This morning I awoke to a light flurry of snow falling outside my window and it got me that much more amped for this festive holiday season and all the winter activities to come. Here are some things that I’m looking forward to this winter:

• going ice skating in Rockefeller Center •

• dressing up and celebrating Santacon in NYC •

• “Mini Christmas” – a tradition three of my best friends and I have been celebrating for 13 years •

• making a gingerbread house from scratch •
• cozying up in chunky knits with comfort food •

• going to see the Nutcracker •

• walking through a snow covered Central Park •
What are you looking forward to this winter?

Warm in Fairisle
No print screams Winter quite like Fair Isle; a cozy knit technique featuring complicated patterns and images of snowflakes and/or reindeer. Each winter stores bust out some of the most deliciously soft fair isle knits and for some reason I have yet to purchase any. Although I grew up in California, I’ve lived in snowy climates for over six years now and think it’s about time that I add some of these snuggly knits to my winter wardrobe. Just looking at the pieces I’ve selected below make me want to curl up in front of a fire with a cup of hot chocolate while watching the snow fall outside my window – one of the best parts of the cold, blustery season.

- Rag & Bone Grayling Cardigan – $395
- Free People Greta Over the Knee Slipper – $128
- Topshop Knitted Fairisle Jumper – $70
- Topshop Knitted Reindeer Jumper – $100
- AE Snowflake Trapper – $29.50
- Forever21 Snowflake Zigzag Beanie – $7.80
- Asos Fair Isle Mittens – $17
- Modcloth Log Cabin Cardigan – $79
- McQ by Alexander McQueen Fair Isle Knit Sweater – $417
- Gap Fair Isle Tights – $19.50
- Rag & Bone Grayling Scarf – $195
Glamorously Bundled

I blame myself for this drastic temperature drop in New York City. Ever since I wrote about my interest in buying a new winter coat I’ve been petrified that Winter would come far too soon, and now with temperatures in the mid 30s it feels like the cold weather is here to stay. While I stick to what I said yesterday about my love of cozying up during the cold winter months, I would have preferred for Autumn to have hung around a little longer. Everyone looks so cute in the fall with their obvious layers and dark, rich colors, but come winter people are walking with their heads to the ground, covered up in big black coats that are oh-so-dreary. Such is the case until you look at some of Fashion Week’s biggest style mavens who bust out some of the most luscious coats that are no doubt as equally warm as they are stunning. While I understand that not everyone can have as fortunate a closet as fashion icons like Giovanna Battaglia and Jen Brill, even adding just one bold and different coat to my closet would make such a difference when getting dressed on these cold, drab days. Perhaps I had better re-evaluate my must-have coat list.

After a weekend of back-to-back parties and costuming, I could not be happier to be curled up on my couch in comfy sweatpants, non-stop movie watching and a cozy throw to keep me warm. The weather in New York this past weekend was perfect for Halloween, it was just warm enough that I didn’t have to cover up my costumes with some obnoxious overcoat and cool enough that I wasn’t sweating off my face paint. However, this morning as I threw on my sweatshirt to walk Finn I was confronted with icey cold winds and a temperature about 10 degrees cooler than I expected. So, as depressed as I am to say farewell to Fall, I’m looking forward to cozying up inside with hot tea and fuzzy blankets. Here are some photos that are getting me in that hibernating mood:

These past few days in New York have really felt like fall. The air is crisper, the leaves are falling, and I’ve finally been able to wear pants without feeling like I have sausage casings around my legs. Unfortunately, this weekend’s weather forecast predicts temperatures to be back up in the high 80s and 90s, but I will luckily be escaping this heatwave as I am headed back to my hometown of San Francisco for the weekend. Ah, San Francisco. The city of perpetual fall-ish weather. Bring on the pants, jackets, scarves, and boots!
Although I will only be back in fall weather for the weekend, packing for the climate change has definitely got me thinking about all the things I’m looking forward to this coming autumn. Here are a few of them:

•watching the leaves change colors•
•more importantly: crunching leaves•

•wearing my buttery leather jackets•

•fashion week•

•my brother’s much anticipated wedding!•

•boots, boots, and more boots!•

•pumpkin picking for Halloween!•

•knowing that my birthday falls on 10-10-10 this year!•
What are you looking forward to this coming fall?
