Overkill

Overkill5

If you were to ask me to define the term “overkill,” I’d say that it’s what you do with your car after you’ve *accidentally* run over an animal and want to make sure that it’s really dead. Reverse. Drive. Reverse. Drive. Over and over again. Overkill. But you would probably look at me and think, “Sonia? Seriously?” and I’d get awkward and tuck my tail between my legs. So, let’s just go with the fact that it has to do with excess, in which case you could probably dub this very outfit as overkill.

Overkill1

There’s an excess of neon. An excess of flowers. And an excess of me making that weird face when it’s too bright outside and I’m getting upper-lip sweat. But come on; how much is too much.

I personally love excess. I’m all in favor of monochrome outfits. The more rings on your fingers the better. And I ate pizza two nights in a row this weekend. As they say, go big or go home. If that’s not excess, then call me Tony.

Back-to-back pizza nights or a head-to-toe gingham outfit may make your toenails curl like a pig’s tail, but they happen to make mine grow into thick, healthy pieces of keratin. So with this I say that overkill is entirely subjective; though I’d still love to hear your opinions on this florals-on-acid look in the comments section below. It is also there that you can call me Tony.

So, what do you say!?

A Week in Review

{ The banner that hangs in my kitchen }

This week was full of exciting projects. For starters, I’m making t-shirts for a tournament my friends and I are having this weekend; but on a more business oriented note, my week kicked off with another shoot with Revlon followed by my first day as Editorial Director at FashionEtc! I don’t normally share info about my career outside of my own blog, but I’m so thrilled about this new chapter that I couldn’t help but tell you! In fact, I’m so excited about it that I’ve hardly complained about the 100+ degree heat we’ve been having all week. Having said that, there better be some kind of kiddy pool filled with ice cold water in my near future.

And now, off to my third day at the new job!

Primary Colors

March 21, 2012

The first day of spring beckons something colorful and breezy, so when I woke up yesterday morning I looked no further than this Marc by Marc Jacobs dress that’s been hanging in my closet since last summer. It’s one of the few lightweight pieces that didn’t get tucked away during the winter months as I was convinced I would wear it with black booties, a leather jacket, and lots of snowy accessoires; but alas I never did and it’s thus been occupying space and staring at me for 6+ months.

Happy to take it out for a twirl (note: if you twirl fast enough you look like a beach umbrella – just sayin’), I let the dress take the spotlight and traded in the lightweight ribbon belt and simple sandals I paired it with last summer for bolder accessories. Weird how adding bulkier pieces make something whimsical stand out that much more; then again, the primary colors in this twirly number are enough to bring a speeding taxicab to a full stop…true story. Just call me the traffic ninja. Or don’t.

{ The Schedule }

Fashion Week kicked off with a bang yesterday at BCBG and Richard Chai, the latter of which showed some seriously awesome coat butt pockets and beautiful palazzo pants that I can only imagine send quite a bit of wind up to the nether regions. I was briefly sidetracked by a stress monster that had me on the brink of a minor meltdown until I ran into my non-fashion-week-friend while waiting for the subway. With just our brief chat I was pulled out of my slump and able to accomplish everything on my agenda with a more optimistic mindset. Isn’t it amazing how something as simple as a quick chat with a friend can make everything stressful in your life seem totally mute and miniscule? I really should schedule five minute run-in with friends during Fashion Week as ardently as I schedule the shows.

Here’s a quick look at some of this weeks happenings. Gotta run!

On Your Marks…

January 24, 2012

Holy moly, it feels like Christmas Eve. Karl Lagerfeld’s affordable line Karl, hits Net-A-Porter tomorrow and I am doing back flips with excitement. Not only is it a collection that emulates that androgynous style I so enjoy (skinny trousers, structured jackets, fingerless gloves and Karl’s signature collar? Yes please!) but it also makes me feel a little less guilty that I’m so often drawn to black and white pieces. My fingers and toes are crossed that this collection doesn’t disappear in .5 seconds like the Missoni x Target collaboration (though I was able to score this little baby) but I have a feeling it’s going to be one of those things I need to set my alarm for. On your marks, get set, go!
