Style Icon: Isabel Lucas

October 7, 2010

While now quite famous for her role in Transformers 2 and as a past love interest of Adrien Grenier, Isabel Lucas has been one of my style icons for quite some time. Much like Isabel I am a lover of vintage dresses but I often find their hemlines to be frumpy and unflattering, so I shorten them like nobodies business. Isabel however, manages to pull off that Little House on the Prairie look and manages to make it look both feminine and chic. When roaming the streets you’ll rarely see her wearing anything but billowy skirts and long dresses, but once she hits the red carpet she glams things up with tighter silhouettes by some of fashion’s most noteworthy designers like Marchesa, Pucci, and Chanel.

While there are some people whose wardrobes I would like to raid and others whom I’d like to go shopping with, it’s only with Isabel Lucas that I’d like to take on flea markets, thrift stores, and vintage shops. She certainly knows how to scour the racks for those one in a million pieces and you just know she has a couple of secret vintage shops where she finds only the best of the best second hand items.

But what I love most about Isabel’s style is that it’s one that I can really get behind/relate to. It’s not overly girly, it’s relaxed and comfortable, and it’s a look that transitions throughout each season just by adding or removing layers! A California girl’s dream come true!

Style Icon: Anna Dello Russo

July 29, 2010

I know, I know, me and the rest of the world, but you have to admit that if there were ever going to be a living/breathing closet equivalent to Carrie Bradshaw’s it would be Anna Dello Russo’s (which is actually a whole other apartment next to the one she lives in). Aside from the red carpet it’s pretty rare to see looks right off the runway, mainly because not all of us will look that great in an outfit that say, Hanne Gaby Odiele rocked on the catwalk. But, somehow Anna Dello Russo manages to pull of everything from ready-to-wear to couture and Rodarte to Chanel.

I call myself “the vestal of fashion” because for me fashion is a muse and you must seduce her. How? You have to feed the creative fire, so it doesn’t vanish – ADR

It’s incredible how you will almost never see her wear the same article of clothing twice and how she manages to match bits of her outfits together without looking too, for lack of a better phrase, “matchy matchy”. Granted with over 4,000 pairs of shoes and a closet that requires it’s own living space I probably wouldn’t repeat any of my outfits either. She understands and appreciates color, fabric, texture and design unlike anyone I’ve ever seen. Below I’ve put together a giant collage of some of my favorite Anna outfits, but if I had to go ahead and pick one as my number 1 favorite, I’d have to say the black lace Dolce & Gabbana dress with the red undergarments, but it’s a TOUGH CALL and I may retract that statement after posting this…

Also, rumor has it that there is an upcoming documentary on Anna following her (and her giant wardrobe) through six different cities!

Style Icon: Stevie Nicks

July 6, 2010

It’s impossible to talk about 1970s fashion without bringing up the eccentrically dressed bohemian goddess, Stevie Nicks. With her shaggy blond hair, draped jackets and slouchy boots, Stevie is the quintessential 1970s style icon that so many of us turn to when needing a little hippie inspiration. I know I’m not alone when I say that when thrift shopping I am always on the look out for some Stevie-esque clothing. I have scoured NYC vintage shops for long, beautifully patterned silk cardigans similar to those belonging to Stevie Nicks and have been entirely unsuccessful in my quest. However, I recently purchased the Winter Kate “Jasmine Cardigan” and am absolutely in love with it.

My friend James saw Fleetwod Mac in concert about a year ago and was absolutely mesmerized by the mystical chanteuse. He gushed over Stevie’s croaky voice and wild mane, and dubbed her his latest musical obsession. I’m so envious he got to see her them, but hopefully they will tour again soon. Here’s a little Gypsy for you:

Style Icon: Georgia May Jagger

May 17, 2010

I have been a fan of Georgia Jagger’s style for quite some time, but since her recent participation in the 2011 Chanel Resort Show, I have fallen in love with it even more.

With lips almost always painted a brilliant crimson red, Georgia’s style is as equally sensual as it is fashion forward. She understands how to mix red carpet glamor with 1960s/70s bohemian chic, which in the end creates an effortless, elegant, and youthful look. At only 19 years old, Georgia’s managed to step out of her father Mick Jagger and mother Jerry Hall’s spotlight, and made a name for herself as model, muse, and fashion icon.

I love her subtle make-up and how she uses color and patterns in almost every single one of her outfits. I definitely wouldn’t mind raiding her closet to say the least.

It’s difficult to put a label on her style because it seems to be changing constantly. From stunning designer dresses like a Vivienne Westwood she borrowed from her sister Lizzie to a giant scarf she turned into a dress to a ripped up tunic over leggings, Georgia falls into practically every fashion category.

Here are some of her looks that I use as style inspiration:

Lonneke Engel

December 3, 2009

Lonneke Engel has been one of my favorite models since I was about 11 years old. There is an innocent sensuality to her that always draws me in. Not to mention her beautiful bone structure and piercingly blue/green eyes. I’m sad that I don’t see more of her today. She used to be all over editorials and was the face of Ralph Lauren perfume for awhile.

I had these photos up in my room when I was 13 years old and when I redecorated (as most youngins going through puberty do) I threw them out :(. I was really excited to see them on her fashion spot thread and thought I’d share them with you!
