Because It’s Awesome

Each time I wear either this jacket or these shoes I get a variety of comments — some positive, some negative. For example, a boy once said to me in reference to this outerwear, “why on earth did you buy that?” Ok, a few things here. One: I can’t believe a guy actually said “why on earth” — I feel like only people who say “geez” or “golly” or “soda pop” say that. Two: do you really want me to explain why I bought this jacket? Because it’s a pretty uninteresting, anti-climatic story. So, I simply responded with “because it’s awesome” and walked away. (Jerk.)
Now, when I was younger (ages 5-24) a comment like that would have sent me to Insecure City where people hide in corners and try to blend in with the walls. But as I’ve matoooooored (that’s “matured” with an obnoxious accent), I’ve grown to care less and less about what people think in regards to my sartorial choices. Much like the belief that most people would rather be overdressed than under, I would rather dress like myself than try to blend in with the vanillas of the world. This is starting to sound like a preachy post, and though that wasn’t my initial intention I’m going to roll with it. You see I’m under the belief that if you feel like your look is a little on the “is this appropriate?” side then you should definitely wear it. So I leave you with this: should someone question your outfit or comment on its ridiculousness, tell them it’s awesome and walk away. (Cause they’re a jerk.)

Surrendering to Comfort

Sometimes you just need a little outfit comfort, which for me means: adios heels, buona sera cotton t-shirt, and aloha super soft jeans.
But while wearing pieces that could easily double as pajamas, I take the opportunity to add some edge to the look — an easy way to take something from boring to interesting without forfeiting comfort. For me this means my statement making leather jacket and Rag & Bone biker boots, but I could also see this working with a pair of loafers and a menswear-inspired oversized blazer.
How do you get comfy without looking like you just rolled out of bed?

Casper Pants

Back when I first moved to New York and was looking for apartments, I made the mistake of wearing white jeans while on the hunt and wound up coming home with the back half of my pants speckled with gray dirt and dust. Granted it had rained the night before, but still, I was totally grossed out and took a major hiatus from casper pants (not to be mistaken with the casper pale skin I’m currently sporting).
In the past year I have welcomed white jeans back into my life with open legs arms and am happy to say that this featured pair of Rag & Bone leg casings skinnies have only suffered one speckle of grey dirt because of Finn‘s post dog park paws. Thankfully, there’s this amazing potion called bleach that works like a fairy godmother’s magic wand. Zap! Zing! Stain be gone!

*Yes.

Mile High Club

You can tell by these pictures that I’m not too thrilled about leaving SF today to go back to NYC, but alas the time has come for me to hop on the plane and head back to the cold east coast weather. My time at home has been quite fulfilling, and I mean that in all aspects; I’ve stayed in bed for the entirety of a day (or days), I’ve seen some of my bestest friends, and eaten so much food that I actually feel disgusting. Woof.
As sad as I am to leave San Francisco, I’m looking forward to getting back into the groove of things and not stuffing my face every time I sit down to a meal. But that’s what the holidays are for, right?

Je Ne Sais Quoi

I know that a fashion blog is supposed to be all about showing off interesting outfits consisting of pieces that one wouldn’t necessarily think to put together, but I gotta tell ya, sometimes I just wear a simple pair of jeans and a t-shirt. This is an example.
After spending a few hours decorating our Christmas tree yesterday, I went for a little shopping stroll on Hayes street to hunt for some last minute Christmas presents and obviously a few treats for myself as well (I’m a brat). Feeling a little jet-lagged and sore from my flight (getting older is awesome…) I threw this casual outfit together and topped it off with a bold necklace from Samantha Wills to give the look that extra little je ne sais quoi. Though not the most interesting outfit I’ve put together, it’s damn comfortable and sometimes that’s all that matters.
