With the latest news of Carine Roitfeld leaving French Vogue, I thought it only fitting that she be the next subject of my Style Icon post. While infinitely more reserved than her Vogue Japan equivalent, Anna Dello Russo, Carine Roitfeld manages to make everything look sophisticated and elegant - a hard thing to do when one of your biggest wardrobe staples are multiple pairs of thigh-high lace up boots. While classifying someones style isn’t my favorite thing to do, I would say that Carine is the perfect example of making more conservative, business-appropriate fashion look stylish and sexy. Knee-length pencil skirts are so often misconstrued as plain, boring, and unflattering, but the way that Carine throws them together with a feminine blouse, a pair of edgy heels, or a structured coat makes knee-grazing skirts look as elegant and chic as Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday.

With a relatively minimalistic wardrobe color palette (tons of blacks, whites, and browns) one would think that her style would be dull and boring, but she’s a perfect example of how with the right silhouette and a knockout pair of shoes, a next to no color ensemble can go a long way. And since she clearly shares my love and weakness for coats and jackets, I admittedly have some serious wardrobe envy - particularly with her Rick Owens trench (pictured below, top far left).

While it’s sad to hear that she’s leaving French Vogue, I am also excited to see what she has lined up next. From all that she did with French Vogue, her skill for impeccable styling, her sophisticated taste, and note worthy personal style, one can only imagine that whatever she does next will be fashionably brilliant.

She’s definitely got a power look going for her.
