Along with stripes, leopard is one of those prints that will never go out of style for me. Recently I’ve really loved pairing the kitty print with some of the brighter pieces in my wardrobe like these green pants, this orange shirt, and this red skirt. As always, there are new pieces popping up at some of my favorite stores that I’m d-d-d-dying to add to my closet like the metallic skinny trousers and cozy leopard sweater featured below. While there’s no way I’ll be able to add all of these pieces to my wardrobe on my own, I’m happily taking donations so I can do so…just kidding…kind of…

Monochromie Homie

October 17, 2011

I’ve been really into monochromatic outfits lately - obviously my all black ensembles don’t count, but just the other day I wore red from head-to-toe and loved looking like a tomato. This look is obviously much more subtle but I love how polished grey looks when paired with similar charcoal hues.

The other great thing about this outfit is that it’s as comfortable as a grey sweatsuit. The trapeze shaped cashmere sweater is as cozy as wearing a blanket and trousers with a little breathing room are a nice change from my everyday skinny jeans. If both pieces came in multiple colors I would definitely own them; I mean how great would this outfit look in emeraldy greens?! Peacock blues?! MUSTARD YELLOWS!? Oy!

The good thing is that this is an easy look to re-create no matter what pieces you have in your closet (sweater and trousers? I know you all have some of those in your wardrobe), so stay tuned for something similar coming real soon…

V A R S I T Y

October 5, 2011

I put this look together in a Monday morning hangover slump after trying on dozens of different, more complex outfits that just weren’t looking or feeling right. While my go-tos in such circumstances are usually my black jeans and my favorite broken in t-shirt (see here), those pieces were both in the laundry and I was forced to get creative.

This jacket is perhaps my best fall purchase so far; I love how it’s kind of like a varsity sports jacket (something I never actually earned seeing as how I was never varsity at anything…or junior varsity for that matter) and at the same time feels like it could have easily come out of Stella McCartney’s f/w collection. It also kind of resembles the Stella McCartney Varsity Sports Jacket which I would kill for…

Stella. McCartney. Perfection.

Anyhoo, you’ll definitely be seeing a lot more of this jacket in the next few months and I’m not going to lie, I’m kind of tempted to sew a big varsity S on it. Who says I’m not varsity now!?

// Pajama Day \\

This is what I call the Dayquil glow…

Yesterday morning I woke up feeling like someone started a fire in my throat while a marching band was practicing in my head. Needless to say I was one sick puppy without any interest in putting more than five minutes into my outfit for work. I decided to go for comfort on a day that I’d rather have spent in bed watching movies and chose this soft dress that’s actually a nightgown from the pajama department at Target (shh don’t tell).

I dragged my tired toosh to work but was so thankful to be wearing pajamas a comfortable dress since I spend the majority of my days sitting in a chair in awkward positions. I was pretty out of it for most of the day (thank you Dayquil!) and managed to run into an elevator door while it was closing and now have a giant bump on my head which you can actually see in some of these photos - it looks like a giant vein on my forehead…yeah, don’t lie, you all see it…

I guess that’s all part of pajama days…if you’re dressed like you’re in bed then chances are you’re going to go about your day sleepwalking. Let’s just be thankful I didn’t take any Nyquil…

Life on ▲ MARS

Along with my obsessions with sharks, nature, and Egypt, I also have a deep interest in outerspace; so much so that if an alien landed in NYC tomorrow and asked if I wanted to hop on his UFO and go back to Mars with him I would say yes without so much of a blink of an eye. I enrolled in an astronomy class in college but dropped out after the first two days once I realized how much math was involved. Me + Math = An arranged marriage that ended up in an ugly divorce. Fortunately, looking at photos and watching videos about other galaxies involves absolutely no math so I can still feed my obsession without hurting my brain. Yay!

The color of these pants reminds me of that weird yellowy, green sky in photos I’ve seen of Mars so I thought it only fitting that I focus today’s post on that curious planet. I actually wore this outfit during Fashion Week on one of the only days I opted for no heels - it was amazing. I figured the bold, red lip made up for the lack of interesting shoes. Plus you can’t very well take a trip to Mars in 5-inch platforms, now can you…
